Ask and you shall receive, my son.
Remind him that "recoil real feel" shooting at paper is A LOT worse than when shooting at live game. Recoil is the same, but perceived recoil has always been different for me.Ask and you shall receive, my son.
He's going to use 3 inch to hunt with. The Long Beard XR has always patterned really well in this gun.Remind him that "recoil real feel" shooting at paper is A LOT worse than when shooting at live game. Recoil is the same, but perceived recoil has always been different for me.
It is. I was letting him learn on the best mule I had. That looks like a mossberg 835, and I think they are the hardest kicking 12 ga.
I still love mine, don't feel like turkey season without a sore shoulderI hunted for years with mine but finally sold it and bought a semi, less recoil

Except for the time I had a bird come from behind me and I had to shoot it at a funny angle. Almost tore my nose off. There is no recoil when shooting at an animal.![]()
When my son was 7 I had him practice shooting his 20ga with 2 3/4" shells. When it came time to hunt I slipped a 3" in that I had patterned and he killed his first and only turkey. He didn't feel a thing. Hasn't hunted in several years now and about to be 23 in a few weeks.Except for the time I had a bird come from behind me and I had to shoot it at a funny angle. Almost tore my nose off.![]()
Grown men tell tales of those set ups.It is. I was letting him learn on the best mule I had.

I dare any of you to shoot one of the little short New England 10ga turkey guns with screw in chokes and a 3.5" shell….. Been there done that and will NEVER do it again. After the shot, I was in my back looking at the sky and had a black eye. This was back in high school around 2000-2001.
If anybody has an 835 that's in good shape, and you don't use it anymore, let me know.
My wife is thinking about going with me this year.
