CWD Creeping Eastward

Obviously they think we have no choice and will continue to give them our money. When we've had enough and hunt out of state maybe they will listen. Be to late at that point of course. Cwd is creeping across the state but now baiting is fine. As long as you give them your money. Laughable at best for wildlife management.

It's every where folks. It only doesn't exist in places they aren't looking hard for it. Wait till it is found in your county. Three-four years of the No limit policy will go in to affect and it'll get very difficult to see a deer even on a late evening drive through the countryside. There are places like this believe me I live in one. My house sits in the middle of 40acres and my 3 year old daughter has seen a total of one deer out the window in her entire life. 10 years ago we saw em all the time. It's not cwd itself only around 125 approximately have tested positive out of 1000s of samples in my county. Slow the spread they say. They slowed it alright.

You guys do realize it was a jerk legislature and his cronies that got it passed, Twra was completely against it and had their hands tied on the situation
Yes and its frustrating.

Also frustrating is that baiting will still be illegal next year...unless you buy the permit...then its ok.

All while CWD moves east...ridiculous.

It's all about the money. The CWD scare generates lots of "research" funds. And yes, the baiting bill was brought forth by a politician, but the good ol TWRA couldn't pass up a chance to tax the hunters. Same thing in my home state. Baiting is bad…..unless you pay the tax to do it.

The $50 fee is established in the law. TWRA can't give them away if they want to.

But yet they passed a baiting law.

This state would not know wildlife management if it punched them in the nose. And boy, do i wish it would.
States that have had CWD for years allow baiting. Michigan comes to mind. They took it away, people complained, they put it back in.

CWD is coming, so is baiting. I don't see either going away and at this point, I see CWD going away before baiting. JMO

Not the point. It's the collective talking out of both sides of the mouth over the span of just a few years.

i do not like the earn a buck program. hunters shouldnt have to be rewarded for assisting with management of a resource they enjoy

Unfortunately hunters mirror society. A whole bunch of entitled parasites who concern themselves only with their immediate desires. No forethought or care for the inevitable consequences to come.

I'm just going to say it, fellows if you don't want to deal with the bull crap regs that go along with this disease that we can't do anything about, stop testing your deer.
There, I said it.
I wonder how many thousands of positive deer have been consumed before they even knew about the disease? Nobody died or even got sick 🤔🤷‍♂️

I get what you're saying and don't really disagree. But it doesn't mean it won't be found. The most recent find in Wayne County was via a road-killed deer. But you're correct that less hunter-harvest testing would lessen the likelihood of detection.

Talked to a lot of people today. Everyone I've talked to are smart enough and have watched the stupid crap from West Tennessee and will not cooperate. I'm sure some will as there's always weak minded people who fall for anything.

And if you think the leadership of the TWRA fought the baiting bill, you better talk to some employees. You are wrong. Field employees yes were against it. Leadership's attitude changed the minute the license increase failed.

I use to think CWD was no big deal. Use to say states have had it for years and they're fine. Till I researched the states that have it. And not the whole state of each state has CWD. Certain parts and counties of those states have it. And from what I've read in those counties the herd has been decimated. There will always be deer to hunt even in CWD positive areas. But I for one don't want to go back to what the 1980's deer herd was like. And if you weren't alive I clue you in you don't either. But in the end there is nothing we can do about it. So worrying now won't do anything.
