Walmart has a CVA Optima with the thumbhole stock for $265. If anybody has an Optima is it a good gun do you like it?

i have a optima pro & like it real well, its a little heavy but that just helps reduce recoil,mike243

I like mine. A great rifle for the money. I bought my Opt when they 1st came out (cheap). Nothing fancy black and blued. I love the break action, easy to clean, bluing not to bad especially with a little touch up pen here and there. No rust or pitting issues. I put a Nikon Prostaff BDC scope on it, and a decelerator pad on the butt. Good to go.
A realy good setup for under $350 all together, with scope, rings and pad.
I can hit milk jugs all day long at 200 yds.
A lot easier to shoot, and more accurate than my TC Hawkins. :)

90 grains loose Pirodex!

Have an Optima camo w/nickel barrel- leupold 6x fixed power scope -like everone said little heavy - but have taken several deer with it. just switched to 300g hornady sst bullets & 100g 777 -groups got tighter over the old bullets i was using 245g powerbelts ( reason for switch was never a pass thru but even with not having a pass thru deer never ran far)

i have one and it hates those 245g arrow powerbelts I just bought some of those new hornady 350g we shall see tommorow when i take her out to shoot.

i have an optima pro and i love it. Shoots tight groups and i dont believe that i have had a misfire. You should get one. They are heavy though

three yrs. ago i got my optima from cabelas in a package deal so i got the cheap scope with it, but cheap scope or not it drivestacks at 100 yds. with 100 grains 777 pellets and 240 xtp mag T/C.

I just bought an Optima Pro at Academy. It is the Camo with the weather shield finish. The barrel on the Optima Pro is 29"! I took it to the range one time and didn't have enough tme to get it sighted dead on, but like it.

got one for Christmas last year just like you mention.
love it, light weight, break action...
took a deer first season , one shot, deer dropped.
I shot a TC blk diamond last year.
Love the Opt better

I love the Optima Pro. I have taken it to the range three times now and I got it shooting good groups. I might just leave the centerfire at home!

Can I safely use three 777 pellets with the Optima Pro? How is the accuracy with 150 grains?

I've never found the need to shoot that much. I shoot 120 gr lose 777 in my Pro and that is the same as 150 gr Pyrodex. The Pro has a longer barrel and that extra allows the power to burn more inside the barrel where it puts more pressure behind the bullet resulting in higher velocities. Any time you see power burn outside the barrel that is wasted power and does nothing to help the bullet, that tells you you are over doing the amount of power for your set up.

Using 120 gr of lose 777 and the new Power Belts Platinum Billets in my Opitma Pro I droped a doe in her tracks at 140 yards this year. The bullet went clean though her and left an exit wound half the size of my closed fist.
