We have a club tournament at Cordell Hull next weekend. I've never seen the lake before and don't have time to go practice.

Anyone have any general tips?

I'm not asking for specific spots - I just have no idea what to expect.

Water will be cooler then you think. Be careful. It's a dangerous lake if you've never been on it. I would advise you to flip timber all day. There are some big ones in there

What makes it dangerous? Rock? Drifting wood? Sudden depth changes?

I would assume he said that for depth changes. When you get out of the river/creek channels it can get shallow really quickly.

Cordell can be fickle. it is cooler as mentioned above so the fish dont really get driven deep. narrow windy channel with lots of standing timber. Id be looking at flipping standing timber or the outside bends in the channel that has bluffs is a great place to flip. My buddy was catching a few on the bluffs on a whopper plopper ran right up against the walls

Well, that was a waste of a day! Blasted off about 5:30. Weigh in was at 3:00. I pulled back to the ramp about 2:00. I had one keeper. Tossed him back in and headed home.

Brutal.
