For those who know me....know that I have always been a Parker Bow fan...and deep down it has and soft place in my heart. Heck, my son's name is Parker. But the Blackhawk was a awesome shooting bow but just wasn't what I expected and at the time in 2012, I lost one of the biggest deer I had ever shot at over no penetration. So I sold it out of disgust and bought a Strother Vanquish SD, new arrows and switched from G5s..to NAP Bloodrunners. I bought it 4 days before bow season opened..sighted it in and smoked the same deer I lost the previous year..a 13 pt. I shot a doe last year at 25yrds, and blew through! This year I shot a a 14pt...downward angle 10 yards ..the arrow didn't blow completely through but it went through. Only went 50 yards. So this bow is deadly! But with that being said....i have this urking to buy a new mathews or Elite. Probably a stupid mistake. What are you guys thoughts on the new bows?

Brother I had the Parker Blackhawk and you cant blame the bow for losing that buck. The Blackhawk had plenty of speed. Its possible you didn't make the best shot or maybe the arrow or broadhead choice was not optimal.

The Blackhawk had an IBO of 325 fps which is in the ball park of many bows today.

If I were going to buy a new bow, and I'm probably going to get hammered for this, but I definitely wouldn't be buying a matthews...there's much better options IMO...elite makes an excellent bow but the bottom line is you have to find a bow that fits YOU! I love my bow and it's going to take a out of body experience with another one to make me change anytime soon. Also 99% of the time we miss or wound deer it's user error and not equipment malfunction, believe me we have all made the mistake!

I'm with Tree Ghost, find a bow that fits you and your shooting style—I shoot Elites, but that is what I like and I shoot the best right now. Would I switch back to Mathews, or another brand—definitely, if someone came out with something that tickled my fancy or I could shoot better. They haven't, so no I won't. :) It seems to me that you are trying to talk your self out of that Strother...LOL.

You and I had many talks about our Parkers. I never had one pass through shot with it..it did shoot really good! I send it back to Parker more than once..it had 3 or 4 new strings and cables on it... the shot i ended up with on the last buck was a little bit of my fault and the bows fault. I had shot a few deer with it...and put arrows in the bread basket and still didnt get a pass through shot. Now the Strother i have isnt as quiet as the Parker but it must sling an arrow well.

The Blackhawk I had was a 29" draw and shot a 390 grain arrow ~287 fps. I had pass throughs on two deer I killed with it.

What arrow/Broadhead did you use? What was your poundage and draw length?

My advice is don't get brand specific at all and shoot as many bows as you can, find out what what fits you best and what you shoot the best. In other words let the bow pick you. Not you pick the bow.

I was bound and determined to go out and Buy a Mathews this time around after buying a PSE and catching crap from buds over the years about having a "infieror" bow.

I killed a slew of deer with that bow but was never happy with it because it was not a Mathews. I went into the bow shop and tried the Mathews Solocam and really liked it and tried so,e others I liked too. I told them to hold the Solocam and I would be back when I got paid to buy it. The day I went in to pick it up they had just gotten in the Bowtech Carbon Knight. It's the only Bow I had not shot yet. When I shot it everything felt right about it, the weight and balance was what I was looking for. When I hit the chrono and it was 15 FPS faster than the Solocam I was like sign me up. It being a black bow made it that much easier to pick out accessories.

So sometimes going in with a pre conceived idea about brands is not always a good idea..

See that's where alot of my problems arise. I was shooting about 64 lbs with a 26.5" draw length (God didn'tbless me with height or long arms lol). The arrows was bemans...I'm pretty sure 400s with G5 montec's. I think that's where this Strother shines for me because it's a designed SD (short draw) bow.
i have NEVER ever wanted a Mathews in my life but the NoCam and the Helim got my attention. I have always been a fan of the little man like Parker, Martin, Strother...ect. I'm probably going to end up keeping the Strother Vanquish SD. .for one it's on a pretty good streak..i guess I just needed a little confirmation if it isn't broke don't fix it!

What are you shooting these days? I don't get to get on here as much as iused too...too many jobs lol

Don't expect to get much cash out of your Strother if you are going to sell it to help fund the new Mathews. With Obsession buying the company minus the current stock and not honoring warranties on previous models, it looks like they aren't carrying much resale value.

You don't really need a reason to get a new bow other than wanting to change. If you like your current setup though, why go through the process of figuring out if you like a different bow right now?

Right after I bought my knight I went to the Franklin bow shop and tried one of the Hoyt Nitium? Bows. Man I gotta tell you if I had tried it before I bought the Knight I would have gotten the Hoyt, not that it shot any better. It just seemed a lot smoother on the draw and was quieter . I did not like it well enough to jump ship though and abandon what I have. It was not that drastic of a change. Great bow though no doubt. I can see why there is so my hype put behind Hoyt.
