looking to buy a compost bucket, i was told to layer with worm castings first, then add my scraps from the house and as I layer to
mix the worm casting in with the household garbage to avoid fruit flies. any suggestions
 
The worm castings has a lot of microbes that will speed up the composting process. I dont think it will avoid fruit flies. What will help keep all that down is to mix it in and keep your 'browns' (i.e. cardboard, etc ) on the top.
 
Guy here at work just started Worm composting. red worms (bought) and a tray system, he is blowing though compost now. They are making a ton in a short amount of time. Too cool.....
