clear cut???

My main farm is 146 acres but the last of the hardwoods will be clear cut next week, will this run every buck a county away? 26 Acres was clear cut 14yrs ago and another 45 was spot logged in 2006. So i have plenty of cover....the acreage being clear cut is 31 acres.

I declare...don't know if there's research behind it but deer may actually be attracted to skidders and diesel fuel. Hunt it just like normal.

Throw a quick food plot on the logging roads! Clear cutting was the ticket on my land, it provides a lot more browse for the deer to eat.

One of my farms was completely logged before last hunting season. I have hunted these farms for 25 plus years and last season saw more bucks than I've ever seen. This years camera surveys look even better than last and I believe the logging is why. Put linear food plots along the edges so the deer can pop out of the cover to eat and so you can stay out of the cover. It is really a blessing in disguise.

The deer will simply move into the areas cut previously (which should be fairly thick cover) until the loggers are gone.

And one other thing to think about: even in heavily cut areas--especially those areas cut while leaves were still on the trees--I often find that deer will bed in tops left laying around in the cut. Since the tree was cut while leaves were still on, these dead leaves tend NOT to fall off the downed top that first year. These dead-leaf covered tops provide EXCELLENT little bedding spots for individual deer, especially loner bucks.

No, like stated above they will simply stay out of the loggers way and use the available cover until all the new food and cover is produced from the logging!

A couple of years ago I was testing one of FIREMANJIM's homebrew video units and I place it on a salt lick that is literally sitting right next to an active log-loading deck. Each day, within just a few hours of the loggers leaving, deer would be all over that lick. They didn't care one bit about the skidder and dozer parked 15 feet away.

A couple of years ago I arrived in GA during the peak of chasing to find skidders running wild on our place. I've hunted logged land my whole life but never during an active operation.

I almost left and came back home, but decided to stick it out. Over the next few days we saw and killed some of the best bucks we've ever taken down there. The deer completely ignored the logging which many times we were watching deer move normally with skidders not 150 yards away. They didn't care one bit, and seemed to understand the logging crew posed no threat
