I'm at Catoosa for the muzzleloader hunt and it's been a great day so far. At first light had a hot doe get up from her bed and walk right through the funnel I'm hunting. Not even 5 minutes later had a 3.5ish looking buck come through right on her trail. He had 3 visible points on each side (couldn't tell if he had browtines). Since then I've had 3 more younger bucks trailing the same doe. If it keeps up like this, it's going to be an awesome experience. This is my first quota hunt and first public land hunt so it has gone way better than expected.

You have hit it about perfect as far as rut timing goes. If the weather does what its supposed to the next week should be awesome here.

I got drawn for this weekend but don't think I can make it. Didn't have time to scout with the babies at home so I would be going in blind. Good luck!

I would still go...

I've only been there once while in school. Would it be worth it to drive up and hunt just 1 afternoon?

At 6:10 I had a fight break out on top of the ridge I was watching from the same tree I hunted last week. It was extremely calm as far as wind so I could here the deer running from the top as soon as the fight stopped.
The Doe ran right at me and turned to my left at 50 yards. Perfect!
I then saw another deer come over the top but it stopped halfway and turned towards my Dad. It was probably 150 yards away on the hillside. It had a smaller rack but I couldn't get an accurate point count. Then the other deer appeared over the top of the ridge very dark body head to the ground so I wasn't able to tell about the rack it had. The doe bolted and the dark bodied deer dropped over the side to my left to cut her off probably 125-150 yards away and I never saw them again and was left trembling all over. I watched as the small buck angled off the other way almost on the same path the buck took last Thursday that my Dad killed. I text him and made him aware but it never passed by him.
Stayed in the stand till noon climbed down and went and scouted a couple more new areas. I'm heading back in the morning hoping to see that dark bodied buck again but closer and hopefully on his side lol!

Just got back to camp. Everything shut down as far as movement about 11 am and it never picked back up. Stayed in the stand all day till dusk. Going to try a new area I scouted yesterday. When I pulled into camp there was a truck with a deer on a hitch hauler, but it was gone before I could get back up there after getting my camp situated.

For there to be 400 tags drawn just for Genesis, I'd say no. I'm camping on the side with check in station and there's maybe ten vehicles.

When I left Bicolor last nit at around 6:00pm, the game warden said that 0 deer had been checked out. Never heard a shot fired yesterday and never saw the first deer.

Zilch for me. Hadn't even heard a shot. I just got down and I'm going to look for a spot to hunt this afternoon. Hopefully it'll pick up with this big cold front moving in.

I'm fixing to get down and go look at a couple more places then I'll head home and lay in the AC!
This two days the weather has been bad. I doubt I come back tomorrow don't care about getting wet.
Probably go mid morning tomorrow and scout some public land for me a spot for Thanksgiving day.

Yes sir same to you.
I just made it home. I'll be back at least for one day in December.
I like the area we are in wish we had explored more in the past and found it sooner. I'm hoping our kill ratio goes up some lol.
Maybe next year I can camp up there. I'm definitely turkey hunting up there this Spring and using that time to learn it better and maybe kill a bird or two.

It was a little windy last night. Tent was staked out and lowered all the way. Left the window on the truck halfway down, driver's seat was soaked. It's been one of those days. Too windy for me to feel comfortable to climb. So I'm just watching a ridge that's protected close to where I saw the chasing on Thursday.
