Catching cats?

My son is wanting to catch some catfish out on the river or wherever, and I dont really know too much bout em! What is the best way to go after them right now? BTW , I fish between the cottonport and mouth of the hiwasee areas of the TN river! Thanks!

Ive fished that stretch of river many of times.. Used to live in that area. Always had luck out from the mouth of Richland Creek up to the left and out from Garrison's slough, and down by the big island before you go up into Hiwassee. Theres many spots! I like to use cut bait preferably shad or herring but bluegill will work. Just cut them into strips and hook them on a good sized hook and hold on! PM me if you need some more info. i've been wearin em out the last 3 weeks on shad in 40 feet of water all of them between 8 and 20lbs

The cattin' on Old Hickory has really took a turn for the worse.We fsihed almost all night friday and came home with 3 small ones..Not good compared to the way things have been a couple weeks back..Guess this heat is driving them deep.

I used to catch them below the dam on the meigs co. side. I have caught some pretty good ones there.
