Mike had already caught a bunch of very nice catfish. It was hot, very little breeze and the pleasure boats were rockin us so Mike says one more fish and let's call it.
Pretty soon the LAST fish rod bows down and it looks like it's kinda serious.
Mike sets the hook and starts the battle...Did a little river fishing with my son those morning.
Decided to go below Old Hickory dam and catch skipjack for bait.
The Hydra Sport with the 200 Verado wouldn't shift into gear so we trolling motored up to the generators and caught a bunch of skippies.
Loaded the boat on the trailer, went home, swapped out boats.
Launched on the river, motored to a creek channel at the edge of the river channel and dropped lines.
First fish was a blue catfish, only 19.6 lbs, hardly worth mentioning.
Second fish was a little more respectable blue at 31.4 lbs.
Then we had a 6 lb channel cat, soon to be followed by an eleven lb blue and a 17 lb blue.
Then....we got a triple hit!
Mike had a 32.66 blue, I had another 11 lb blue, and then Mike reeled in the last of the triple play, 16.5 lbs.
Not a bad morning but it was HOTTTTT!
Very little breeze, sunny and humid.
We decided to give the fish a break and go home and cool off ourselves.
All the fish were released, unharmed, to fight another day.
and, of course, another rod bows down.
Breaking my rule of "I don't reel in fish", I pick up the bowed down rod and start flailing away.
And then....the third rod bows down....nothing we can do but let him run around while we get the first two in the boat.
Mike had a 17+# and I had a little 11#er.
We got a photo of Mike with the two fish, got them back in the water.
Mike reeled in the last fish of the morning, a cheesy little 10# blue.
The boat is trashed, cut lines, fish poop and blood stains from the cut bait everywhere. We are going to make new leaders and re-rig the rods and, possibly, go out again this evening.

Awesome morning. They are fun, but man they are messy fish. We have been catching 2 to 5 pounders on 2" grubs and 1/32 oz heads while crappie fishing. Not sure why they are hitting plastics. All of ours have been speckled channel cats.
