Cant get bolt pulled back....??

Your bolt looks to be in the fired position. You need to pull the firing/cocking piece back into place. Pretty easy fix...
1) Remove the bolt from the rifle.

2) Hold the bolt by the locking lugs, so the handle is away from you.

3) Get a dime for step 4.

4) Hook the protruding cocking piece on your tightly laced bootlace, between the first two eyelets, closest to the toe.

5) Pull the bolt toward you, until a slot becomes visible on the side of the cocking piece.

6) Insert dime in the slot, then relax and let the cocking piece retract back into the bolt until the dime catches.

7) Unscrew bolt assembly, leaving the dime or dogtag in place, DO NOT let the dime fall out of the slot.

This all takes about 7 seconds after you have done it a few times.

Assemble in reverse order, be sure to assemble it in a cocked condition or it will not go back in the rifle.

Thanks you UPSman....I got it unlocked and back to normal. I put it in the rifle and pulled handle up,pulled back and pushed bolt back in and pulled handle down. I then Pulled handle up,bolt back and forward and then pulled bolt straight back and took it out and that notch isn't going into that "V"....Its getting hung up on the place that isn't supposed to be there. I will post a picture and see what you guys think.

The above picture is after I put bolt back in and pulkled handle down,back up,pushed bolt forward and pulled bolt back out to see if that notch went back into the "v" or if it got caught up in the place that isn't supposed to be there and it did. I don't even know if that has anything to do with anything though. Probably not because I guess when I push handle down it should be locked in where its supposed to be. Guess I will just bring to a gunsmith is nobody else has any ideas. I do thank each of you for all the help.

If I am not mistaken, that is the place it's supposed to be when the bolt is out of the rifle.... it's like a "detent" place so it stays "cocked" when the bolt is taken out. When you Put the bolt back in and rotate the handle, it will be able to travel back down the "ramp" so the gun can be fired.

Yes......do this first to eliminate something simple before you spend money on a gunsmith. It more than likely may be a pressure issue with the ammo you tried in it. Although the gun you have is not a Model 700, those that had J-locks on them were notorious for this.

you got screwed,,whoever sold you that rifle sold it for the same reason it wont work now,,bad chamber of some sort,,send it back or take it to a Rem approved smith,,

need to write the manufacture of the bad ammo

give them the lot number and such they should replace it


like i said earlier you can get bad factory ammo loaded hot
