Mine is about knee deep, and growing like crazy.Kind of wish tha deer were mowing it down, but there is a lot of natural browse. So,eventually it will wilt?Die?What happens?I know it is a short lived crop.Do you just disc it under at some point and replant?Seems like a good time for my next round of lime when its time to disc.Any thoughts?

It will just start turning brown and die. Ive had good success with it just reseeding on its own if you get a good hard rain once it develops a seed head and starts dropping seeds. Ive never went to the trouble of disking it under for a 2nd planting of it, just let it reseed and then overseeded into the thin spots, but thats just me.

I agree with Steven. You can usually get a decent second stand by just letting it go to seed and getting some rain.

The one year I planted it, I let the first planting go to seed, bush hogged, then very lightly disked the plot. This gave me a very good second stand without having to re-sow. I didn't see much deer usage from the buckwheat, so I haven't planted it since.

we planted some last year and dont worry the deer will mow it down its just a matter of time we just planted some agin for now and we will plant more before the season. but last year they didnt start getting in it till it bloomed on the top then they ate it down to the ground
