Best I can recall "chipping" of the hooves is a sign that the deer is possibly an EHD survivor.

Is this correct?

If so, how long till they show no signs of it on their hooves?

I killed a doe Sunday that had it pretty bad and just made me wonder.

As a side note, she also had one thumb nail sized cutaneous fibroma (if I said that right) on one inside rear thigh.
First one I have ever personally killed that had it.

Sloughing or severely cracked hooves usually appear during or right after infection. In essence, a deer that had HD this year would display deformed hooves this hunting season.

However, I don't know the rate of hoof growth, so I don't know how long they will display the deformed hooves.

My Son killed a doe day before Thanksgiving that had badly chipped and peeling hooves. She was a little underweight but otherwise seemed fine, obviously had it early on?
