I am a smoker and I often think it doesn't impact my deer hunting. I try and convince myself that if the wind is right it doesn't matter, or that deer don't care. I am afraid I am just trying to make myself feel better about it.

So for you quitters out there, would you say your deer sightings have gone up since you quit. What about those that vape?

I quit for 7 months with a e-cig before, but battery died and I bought a pack on the way home, and picked them right back up. Going to give it another shot.

Don't use e-cigs. Get a vaporizer. They are much better than e-cigs at reproducing the smoking sensation, and over the long-haul, can be much less expensive (because they are refillable instead of using throw-away cartridges like an e-cig). I tried e-cigs for months and still couldn't stop going back to cigarettes. But once I started vaping, I've had no interest in cigarettes. I would much rather vape than smoke.

As for seeing more deer, I haven't really looked into that yet (analyzed any data). If a deer is downwind of you so that they could smell a cigarette or vapor, they're going to smell you too. The big difference is the intensity of the smell. I can smell cigarette smoke a long, long way off, and I don't have the best nose. However, most people can't smell the vapor from a vaporizer more than a few feet away. The trick with fooling a deer's nose is not going undetected--you can't do that; you cannot be scent-free--it is fooling them into thinking you are farther away than you really are (reducing your scent as much as possible). Without question a vaporizer produces less scent than a cigarette.

I have several friends who started vaping and they have been actually able to continue to stay off cigarettes. I figure it to be just another money making ploy. I tried e-cigarette to no avail, may need to try and give the vaporizer a try.

From the stand point of smoking on the hunt I felt the same as you RobbyW, that I was convincing myself it didn't matter, scent is scent if you get winded it would be as much my natural scent as the cigarette.

Is there any real studies that vaping doesn't come with its own hazards and are they as good, bad or indifferent to a regular smoke.

another thing about scents, if a deer has never associated a scent with danger or it is a new scent to it, it is as likely to investigate as spook.

Absolutely a night and day difference between e-cigs and vaporizers. E-cigs didn't make me not want to smoke. Vaporizers do. I honestly would RATHER vape than smoke.

Initial data suggest vaping is highly successful at getting smokers to quit (may be the best smoking cessation technique yet). but no long-term studies on the heath effects could have been done yet, as vaporizers are fairly new to the scene. The concern would be what is in the e-liquids (the flavorings). Currently, they are not regulated. But I can tell you, you won't believe how much clearer your lungs are within just a few weeks of switching to vaporizers. No more crud in your lungs you have to cough up every morning.

Just read a study that looks promising and they said no nicotine in secondhand vape smoke,it hasn't spooked anything that I've seen ,had three does under me and baked away they didn't seem to notice ,but I was 22ft. Up I'm vapin vanilla!when huntin and hav ha a cig in two months after 34.years of smokin, and draggin deer is definitely a lot easier

While hunting, I'm vaping vanilla as well. When not hunting, hazelnut or something lightly fruity. I just got some dragon fruit that is excellent, and I like pomegranate as well.

I have three years worth of data. Don't make fun because I 100% hunt public land, but I have seen 54 deer this year on the stand, 2.57 deer per trip, and 0.68 deer per hour. only vaping, no smoking.

2012
36 deer, 1.12 deer per trip, and 0.35 deer per hour. Started vaping December 2012, so most of the year smoking except toward the end.

2011
32 deer, 1.03 deer per trip, 0.30 deer per hour. 100 % smoking.

I started keeping detailed record in 2011. This is only three years of data so take it for what it's worth, but I feel so much better that alone is worth it.

BTW, Fluid Vapor's Blackout (apple and pomegranate) and Supernova (Mountain Dew, Strawberry, and Melon) with 2% menthol are awesome. I use Vanilla custard also from Fluid Vapor while in the stand.

Never smoked but smelled plenty of smokers in the woods. Watched them walk by and smelled the smoke. If I smelled them then so could the deer.
That said I have stopped drinking to the most part. May have a whole six pack in one month. Now that I am not hung over and lacking sleep I stay awake and see a whole lot more deer.

I'm using vanilla heavin from Saffire, was blown away today when four does were down wind today and one walked straight to my tree lookin at me and sniffing like crazy I just kept puffing on it then they just finally eased off ,it was pretty crazy I should have been busted ended up seeing 6 total so I'm sold lol

ive been quit 2 yrs now and I can tell you 100% without a dought that it does make a difference BIG... I thought exactly the way you did/do, killed plenty of deer good ones too,my brother and hunting buddies are not so lucky maybe not hunting the wind as well as me etc..I always thought with all the tobacco barns smoking here in tn it wouldn't make a difference,my sightings have went way up my kills have gone up.and my sightings of better deer have gone way up !! Good luck too you

BSK, your pm box is full. I wanted to see if you could message me a link the website where you order eliquids from. Does your liquid have a warning about toxic if swallowed, avoid skin contact, etc?

I found the warning odd, to me it doesn't sound like it's much better than smoking. The only thing it didn't mention would be the effects related to cancer.

I'll clean out my PM box.

I don't order any e-liquids off the net. I want to try everything in person first, so I end up running all over trying different vapor shops' flavors! I've been to about 5 different shops in west Nashville. Now, when I want a particular flavor at a particular shop, I try to buy a large quantity each time, so I don't have to go back as often.

As for "toxic if swallowed," that warning probably comes from just the nicotine itself, which can be poisonous in high dosages. Even a smoker would become extremely ill if they drank a fluid that was 1-2% nicotine. In fact, it could be deadly.

So far, no long-term health studies have been conducted on vaping or e-cigarettes, as they are too new. The big risk would be what is in the flavorings, as the effects, risks, and dangers of nicotine are fairly well known. But I can just about guarantee you vaping will be found to be far less harmful than smoking. The number of known carcinogens in cigarette smoke are terrifying. So far, none are known to exist in e-liquids per se (nothing that is a requirement of making them work). The question is, what is each manufacturer of e-liquids using in their flavorings? An e-liquid is just a mixture of two FDA approved food additives/preservatives (PG and VC) that also act as a dilutent, a small amount of nicotine, and the flavoring.

My wife would like to quit, were can I get one of these vaporizers? Maybe a good Christmas present, anywhere online?

Most of the retail vapor shops also sell online.
