I have all the land in the picture to hunt. I didn't get the lease until the season already started, so I was unable to scout. As a result, a dreadful bow season. I am sure deer are there, as the lease across the road I used to manage is loaded. Please give me some ideas. I will wait to tell you where I have been hunting to see if I am on the right track. Thanks guys!

I'll bite. But 1st I must say that is way to much land for just 1 guy. May be you should invite a friend. :)

Trails coming out of the big thicket in the top right corner.

points, draws, pinch points are a great place to start. way to many places on that map for me to point out all the spots. I would take a few days to scout especially right now with the rut coming into play.

I agree , I live just up the road in Athens . It's kinda like dove hunting you need to keep them circulating ! Nice looking piece ,an , is that in Meigs Co . ?

I don't know how open your woods are but during the rut I would probably set up at the point of that cove with a North wind so my scent blows out over the water. You've got two ridges that almost point that direction and it should funnel the deer. But if I had new land I'd be itching to get some wet conditions so I could still hunt and scout as much as possible to learn where everything is.

Yes,it is in meigs. I am on a lease with 3 others, although I haven't yet hunted with any if them. I did take the day yesterday and walk the ridge on the right. I didn't see any rubs or scrapes yet.

First thing I'd be scouting after every morning hunt looking for food sources and deer sign. Based on the map I'm not sure I'd have to study it more but I'd be between a thicket and food if possible

Tippet you are correct. About 180 acres is my lease though, and one would have have to either cross my lease (which landowners are not permitting) or have access or by boat (which can't be done now that the water has dropped.
