BPS Excel Mono

Anybody used it? I bought a spool of 4# for my ultralights and it sucks! Terrible memory. When you make a cast it loops off the spool causing all kinds of messes. Maybe I got a bad batch?

i use the blue label bps excel in 12 lb. test, best line ever used caught from 12 lb. brown trout to 40 lb rockfish. hardly any memory at all, but dont know about the 4 lb. test

If you are fishing from a boat, take the hook, weight or what ever you have on it off. Bring the boat up a little over idle and let the line out as you drive along until it's almost completely off the spool... The water will pull it off. Drag it behind the boat for a little bit... Maybe a minute after you have the line off. This will remove all the loops in it and it will cast like a dream. Reel it back in while you're still moving.

Chances are you put it on backwards... Meaning the spool of line didn't match up in direction with the reel spool.

If you're not in a boat, let the line out in your yard... Works best when the grass is wet. Just walk along until all the line is off the reel. Hold the line between your fingers when reeling it back up.

Either of these will work but the boat works better. You can do the same thing if youre on the river... Just let the water flow pull it off.

I use it on more than a dozen reels and don't see changing in the near future! I have four reels spooled with the 4lb test.

I've always liked BPS mono, anyone ever use their brand of braid? I need to load up a spool with 30lb braid for the striper fishing I'll be doing in early Summer. Any reviews?

I think Silver Fox is dead on. I'm going to try the boat technique.

Never tried it. I've used the spider wire braid since 1996 or 1997 without any issues except not being able to see it well. I'm in the process of testing some orange braid... Can't think of who makes it right now. I'll be putting the spider wire green braid as a leader just to camo the line a little bit. I'll be flipping with it.

I have tried it all. I use the XPS mono. Little bit higher but a lot better quality. I like the Bass Pro Braid, but I am a Power Pro fan myself.

Excel is good line especially for the money. I have used it for years but don't use mono much any more. It is a little stretchy, but I have used it from 4lb test to 30 lb test with no issues. Needing to "stretch" it as SilverFox suggests or having your spool too full is most likely the issue.

Been using the Excel Mono 6-10 lb on my spinning rods for many years, I change it often but its good line for the money.

I used to use it all the time. Now I just fish pline. I did have a bad spool of excel before. You could easily break the twelve lb line with your hands.
