Oh..... Because I love deer hunting and am too excited to wait for rifle season. I may bow hunt some in rifle season this year. It seems funner, I don't know why though.

"most elusive north ameican game animal"? Im not sure i'd call it that.. I bow hunt so I can kill more deer.If I could shoot does during rifle season,i wouldn't bow hunt at all.

And kill mature bucks. I know this horse has been beat to death on here but first two weeks of archery is without a doubt the best shot at patterning an old buck.

Many reasons but first and foremost is the added challenge that comes with being consistently succesful at very close range with a Bow!
Learning to be consistently succesful with a Bow wil make you a much better hunter I promise.
Outside the added challenge I love, is the fact that it gives me another 30 days of hunting deer and spending that time with my Boys and my Dad in my favorite place in the world, THE OUTDOORS!
I have learned more about deer habits and behavior while watching them at close range bow hunting than any other way!
You have to truly learn how to scout and PINPOINT EXACTLY where you need to be, not a 100+ yard margin for error like a gun!
I could go on and on but to each his own!

I will x2 this too...more time in the woods/longer season is also a big part of it.

When I was younger, I never thought bow hunting was something I could ever be skilled enough to do. 5 seasons ago, with a little encouragement, a friend of mine let me borrow his extra bow. I just shot it a few times and then realized that it is something very teachable/"learnable".

I have since become hooked and shooting my first doe 2 seasons ago, there is no bigger rush.

I bow hunt bc it is a challenge! Brings you close to the deer. You will get to see more of what deer do bc you cant just shoot them 100 yards out. (unless your spook) Your heart has more time to jump out of your chest! The rush is just increadible! Its my high!

The whitetail is most definitely not the most illusive game animal in North America, but a formidable adversary none the less.

I second all of the reasons already cited, and would like to add that bow hunting requires bow shooting practice, which gives you something to do from July through hunting season.

Are you asking, "WHY do people bow hunt?"

Or, are you asking, "Why is there a bow season?

Could you not just as easily ask, "Why do people hunt with mzl?"

As to why there is a serason it is simple. There are sufficient number of bowhnters to create a demand which in turn creates another source of income.

As to why people bowhunt, that too is simple, because they want to, they enjoy it and it is by far the most satisfying form of big game hunting. It requires an advanced level of skill and is a tremendously educational form of hnting because the hunter is required to wait, watch and learn.

Nobody kills a mature buck with a bow by accident...... It is the culmination of knowledge of whitetail habits, stealth, woodsmanship, proficiency with a bow and years of experience and very little luck. It's the ultimate challenge.
