Congrats! What a nice deer. Not sure how you managed all of that simultaneous activity. I'm a little envious too. One of the properties I hunt is over two hundred acres in Williamson County down by Spring Hill...I haven't even been able to get a doe this year! Again, great job and a nice buck.

Although slightly difficult to watch the last couple of minutes, I found it interesting and educational to view the dying process that is normally not within viewing range like you captured.

x2 nobody wants to see it suffer, but you can learn from watching it and also not be blind to what happens when you shoot a deer.
 
Congrats on a GREAT buck and Awesome video, definitely was helpful. Most of the time we never get to see this due to the deer running off and doing it out of our view. This is where most of these Internet Heros say that they made a perfect shot and he didn't go far, when in all honesty their deer more than likely did this exact thing.

Again, congrats and I appreciate the video.

Awesome memory caught on video to share for ever......congrats on all counts. I don't think he took long to die given we never really get to see this process. If he had ran 40-100 yds then fell flopping around like we see often but don't see the last few minutes I bet the time is similar. If you knew your shot was on point no need to fling another arrow even if you could have. This is reality when it comes to what it looks like and I'm so glad you shared. Btw I have a go pro on my bow and my footage is similar....we ain't winning no awards
 
The best thing to do in that situation is pretty much what happened....leave him alone and let him bleed out. It was already hit through vitals. Because he didn't keep running the blood did not pump out as fast, and he died in a couple minutes instead of a few seconds. Still extremely humane. Another arrow would not have quickened the death unless it caused him to get up and run off, pumping the blood out faster. Unlikely that would have happened or he would have already kept running. Leave them alone and let them die in peace when they are down with a hit throught the vitals.

If you couldn't get another shot off then you couldn't. End of story. Great buck and you probably were still pumped just being able to video it after the shot.

As far as the grunting...simply amazing. I've had a few run a doe by me steadily grunting. At the shot (rifle) they never broke stride, never flinched at the shot, and never quit grunting, and continued the chase right up until they fell over dead from having their hearts blow out. Now that's concentration and dedication to the feat at hand!
 
Yeah they seem to live longer when they are all hyped up. I shot one years ago with a muzzleloader. Hit him in the shoulder breaking it and entering the vitals. He just looked at me like he was kick the snot out of me and then continued on like nothing happened. He went 200 yards and I never found a drop of blood I just knew I hit him because of his shoulder and he left the doe, I had to look for 3 hours to find him.

After it all happened I sat down and started shaking so bad I couldn't get down for another 15 minutes. If I had tried I would fallen out of the tree. I usually can hold it together until after the shot which has been something I've had to work on, but it sure helps. I texted my dad a picture of the buck on the ground from the stand and he asked if I had stopped shaking yet. I finally responded and said no I can't even stand up right now I might fall out of the tree.

My whole family, including my 3 year old nephew came out to help me recover the deer. It was very cool seeing his excitement, I can't wait until he is old enough to go with me. He said "it's a great big HUMONGOUS deer uncle Wills!" lol For some reason my name has an "s" on it
 
Same here. I'm as cool, calm, and collected as can be watching a buck approach and mentally setting up the shot but after the shot I shake like a baby.
 
Great buck and great video!!! That is hunting right there! Is it hard to watch the animal you shot take its final breath? Absolutely! But we should not be ashamed of it or act like it is not a part of what we do. If it truly bothers some that much maybe they should think of a less deadly hobby. Great buck
 
Good lookin buck, congrats! Starting to get some tending here in weakley county. I have seen buck following a doe and does but no flat out chasen. Hope the good one I seen the 24th of october eases out saturday morning. He is heavy body weight and horn wise and he is in thick cover and as usual the hot does might get him heading back in a little later than usual!! ;)

Heck of a deer awesome footage congrats man thank you for not editing it. Most people have never even shot one with a bow and they weren't there. Congrats man they are crazy tough animals that's a very tall pretty deer should be very proud of the deer and the footage. Self filming is extremely tough.

The 6pt I killed this year I hit high shoulder / spine he dropped in his tracks behind some brush I put another arrow in him but because the angle barely got one lung, I admit I watched him for a good bit and he just wasn't going down so I finally had to climb down and walk up to him to finish him off. Yours died quicker than mine it happens to the best of us even happens with a gun

I've had two experiences this year where I have had to finish the deer off and watch them take their last breath. 1 a spine shot, the other arrow hit a limb and gut shot him. Found him in the woods trapped in a holler with his leg pinned between two saplings. While I prefer finding them dead (who doesn't?) I will tell you that going thru that first hand was quite emotional for me. You can make the perfect shot and stuff still happens. That's part of hunting.

I seem to do this every time on chilly/cold mornings. I can be fine, but then after the shot, I shake like I have hypothermia.
Awesome buck 156p&y and great video. I'm envious :).
