Hey guys I wasn't sure if I would share this online but I know you will enjoy it. This is the hunt I had on Sunday. I have been extremely lucky this year and have seen more shooters than any other year in the past. This is the first one I've been able to capitalize on and probably the best buck too. I knew this deer fairly well, I watched him several times in the summer and knew he would be old enough to shoot this year. I saw him on Friday morning at about 7:30, he was alone and was taking his time eating chinkapins. I tried to turn him by rattling to him but he did what most old deer will do and started to loop below me to catch my wind, which I think he got a small scent check of me and headed back to where I thought he was bedding. I slipped in close to the bedding area I thought he preferred on Saturday to pick out a tree to hunt. I came up with this tree and knew I needed either a South or North wind, the trails here run East, West and felt like I would have a shot before they smelled me if I got high enough in the tree. Sunday afternoon I had a steady South wind so I parked the golf cart about 500 yards from where I would end up hunting and worked my way up a creek bed to the stand site. The rest is pretty much in the film. I got lucky and he had a doe in heat with him this day and would wind up moving early to give me a shot. He did what most of the mature deer I see with a hot doe and was herding her back into the thick cover of the bedding area every time she tried to enter the open hardwoods behind me. I watched him above me for about 30 minutes he stood in one spot before I really knew what he was and before I started filming.

Keep in mind my camera is attached to my bow and most of the time I couldn't even see him even though he was in bow range because of the cover. I was also ranging every basketball size hole I could find while trying to film and keeping tabs on the doe that was about 20 yards below me. So the video is sub par but still pretty good footage.

Also you guys should know I did not edit this and he ended up crashing and expiring right behind me so you might want to turn it off toward the end if you have kids watching.

Turn your volume up and right before he jumps the log to come right to me you can hear him making some tending grunts to the doe. When he was farther up the hill he was ticking but you can't hear it on the video. This was one of my best hunts ever by far. Glad I can share, enjoy.

Another congrats on another great deer. You don't totally realize how fortunate you are to not only have deer of that caliber but to live on the land with them so that you can keep tabs on movement, etc.

A tip my friend....I kept expecting to see another arrow fly putting the buck down for good. I once shot a tremendous buck and he fell just like your buck. I just knew as I watched every breath would be his last so I didn't finish him off. Before I could he somehow regained his feet and stumbled into a thicket to never be seen again. If they give you a chance take them out.

Very nice deer. Congratulations! Like others said, I think a second arrow might have been a good idea if possible. I would have been terrified that the deer would have popped up and ran off.

I knocked another arrow but couldn't draw back on him where he was. I would have had to literally stood on one foot leaning out to shoot him again. That's why I warned you guys that it wasn't edited. That's just up close to what you don't normally see. The first shot hit his lungs and heart, they are just tough animals

thanks for posting! and congrats on a great buck!

are you sure you took out the heart and lungs with the shot? No way he would have lived that long.

IMO, based on his behaviour after the hit, it looked like the entry was at the very top of the near side lung, arrow stopped on ribcage on offside passing through the center of the offside lung. The shaft remained inside the deer, preventing the nearside scapula from being able to slide back and forth preventing him from running. It's also possible the broadhead lodged in the offside scapula futher hindering movement. That was very lucky :) If that hadn't happened, he would have covered no telling how far before he died. But regardless, unreal upclose footage of an animal actually expiring. Notice how much he wags his tail during his last couple minutes... that can be a big tipoff even for gun hunters who shoot and think they miss when a deer does not run off.

A lot to be learned from this video for those who are observant.

Again, grats! Great TN buck! Low 150's score?

Cool observations Mega!

And huge congrats 156P&Y! That's an awesome buck.

That is some great footage for a bow mounted camera. Congrats on the deer he is a real stud. They are dang tough, I had a doe take a couple minutes to die this year and watched her go down in a creek. Thanks for sharing, congrats again. Williamson county?

Mega that's pretty good about how the arrow lodged and hindered him from running much. But the angle I'm at is deceiving since I have the camera zoomed in. I was about 30 ft up and he was only about 15 yards from my tree and downhill. I shot him with the rage hypodermic and it entered vertically so it did a lot of damage. It basically cut the near side lung in two, cut the top of the heart and the bottom of the opposing lung. Before it caught the opposing leg, it would have come out below the elbow (shoulder blade joint) if it had not hit bone. He wouldn't have gone far at all.

I wanted to shoot him a second time but there was just no way he was basically behind my tree. I could only see him by looking in my viewfinder of my camera which was stuck out around the tree.

Heart lung shot like that should have put him down quicker, that just shows how tough they are, especially the bigger older ones

Yeah it's Williamson county. I'm not sure what he will score, I'd guess 140's. He's basically a really tall basket rack. I know his 2s and 3s are over 10" just from measuring them with my hand but I haven't put a tape to him and probably won't.

Mike your right. I don't know it just yet, I just try to enjoy every moment. I don't live on this farm where I killed this deer though. I'm about 15 minutes away, so that's nice. It allows me to scout it often

Unfortunate video.
unfortunate video?
Why, because it wasn't embedded? Poor video.

Great deer man! That's what happens in real life when they die from an arrow.

That makes more sense for sure.

Nice buck! I know what you mean. I hit a doe this year and she got behind some stuff and I couldn't shoot her. I thought she was dead an like 5 minutes later she started moving again.

No, it's unfortunate that the deer took so long to die. It happened to me this year, too. It's part of it, but it's unfortunate for the hunter and the deer.

Congrats on a fine buck and thanks for sharing.

I'm reluctant to post stuff online sometimes cause everyone is going to have an opinion.
