If you can't water them where you plant them then I would wait. But it really depends on where you are planting them.

Wait, I would put them in a bigger container carefully. They will probably go into shock but keep them watered and they will come back. I would plant in the fall.

after all the leaves fall from them?

The only reason I posted it the way I did was so you wouldn't be suprised if the went into shock. I just(few weeks ago) potted 20 plus chinese cheastnut, gobbler oaks etc. and most of them went into some sort of shock. Now 80% of them are doing great 20% of them look rough. I would not plant them in the woods but keep them at the house and water them regularly.

question: is it better to keep them in the original pot if they go into shock when putting into a larger container? what are the advantages of a larger container if going to transplant in 4 or 5 months? thx for your insight. i just purchased some pear trees and was wondering same/same.

Depending on the tree. If the tree looks to big for the container it probably is. I have some sawtooth oaks that the roots were circling the bucket. They will eventually choke the tree and die. I need to cut some roots so it won't be bound up. This is caused by the container being to small.
