I'm sure its been discussed before, but please help me with ideas for some quality bolt action 22lr rifles. Intended use is scoped target practice at range and possibly some small game. More target shooting than anything. Not looking for competition grade, and would like to stay under $500 if possible. All ideas appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a Savage SV SR, I think is the model. Crazy accurate and barrel is prepped for a suppressor. I have a Nikon 2-7 rimfire scope. Wonderful outfit and not expensive.

It may be an FV SR. That's what I got recently, it's just been sighted in. I haven't had the chance to try it much, but everyone says they're the closest you can get to a match grade rifle from the factory.

I have a Ruger mkii bull barrel with a 2x7 that's crazy accurate but heavy. I enjoy it at the range.
I have a CZ 512 22 mag that's crazy accurate and fun to shoot.
Both guns have great fit and finish.

I can't compare my little rifle to many others as it's the first bolt LR I've ever owned, but with that said I've got a Ruger American in 22LR that is a pretty good little shooter. It's even better I do believe for the purchase price. You can find these online sometimes for around $150. I'm extremely happy with it for the money. Vance outdoors had them for $169 as of the other day.

Try some Federal 40g all lead, will take 20-30 to settle in after shooting copper coated,

I made the mistake of opening an email from Bud's this morning and clicking on the Savage FV-SR that came up and couldn't pass up the price.

I had an FV-SR and sold it. Great rifle, especially when you dump the factory stock and put an aftermarket one on it. I didn't like how nose heavy it was though...just a personal preference. Liked everything else about it.

Had a CZ American as well and just didn't see what all the hype was about them. I think people get them mainly because they are what some folks say is the best and therefore to them, it is the best as well. I just didn't see it. Rifle shot great but no better than the Savage or Ruger.

With that said...my favorite is the cheap Ruger American. I have one in both 22 LR and 22 Mag. There's nothing fancy about them. They won't stand out in a room as far as looks go. But on the range and in the field, they'll hold their own against anything in their price range and beyond.

Got the Savage for $201 the other day. I wish my Ruger M77 .22LR was threaded for my suppressor. I've had it since the early 80's and it shoots dime sized groups at 50 with any cheap bulk ammo I've put through it.

The cost and thought of having the barrel messed up is what has stopped me. This Savage if it's as good as everyone is saying then I'll be happy as it cost similar to what having a barrel threaded would be.

I have custom 22lr, hi end 22lr, but it's hard beat cz. I have a $400 cz that will shoot with my 1300 $ kimber svt

I think Ruger discontinued the 77-22 a couple of years ago but if you can lay your hands on one you will not be disappointed. Lord knows how many rounds and how many squirrels my 77-22 has accounted for. Mine is an accurate rifle and a pleasure to carry and shoot.
