i have a 2022 g3 sportsman with a 90 hp 4 stroke yamaha. Motor has about 50 hrs. It has been babied. never a night out of the garage. Unloaded at lake and tried to start and it just clicked. Figured low battery so I bought a brand new marine starting battery and same thing. Im no mechanic but would think starter? solenoid? Im sure its an easy fix but where should i start. Is it worth rebuilding a starter or just buy a new one?

with that low number of hours, go new. i'd also find a mechanic you can trust to look to be sure nothing else is going on.

sounds like the starting relay is bad. easy test and fix. common problem. if it it passing voltage across the contacts then trace up to starting solenoid, etc.
would the starting relay be on the motor or near the ignition

Simple things to check first. Is the throttle bumped into gear? Is your kill switch disconnected by accident?
I guess it depends on brands.. my mercury won't make a sound if it's in gear or the kill switch is pulled

One day I sat at the ramp and cranked and cranked that Ranger for all it was worth. Wouldn't hit a lick. It had the kill switch located down on the throttle. So I pulled it out of that busy ramp and went to a ramp the wasn't used (no dock). I tried it some more. Still nothing. I went home and was about to get started on trouble shooting the issue when I noticed the lanyard laying on the seat. I had been pulled free of the kill switch when I sat down in the boat to start it. Argh 🤬🤬🤬. Wasted day and lesson learned. I sold that boat. I told them buyer about the issue in case it ever happened to him. There must have been 5 boats that went out at the ramp and not a one suggested I check that kill switch. I don't know if they were laughing at me for being stupid or if they all were just as dumb. Moral of the story, don't be stupid 😅🤣

I bet you have some corrosion where your wires attach to the starter or ground. Loosen, inspect, and tighten your connections before taking it in .... although I could be wrong.

If your battery does not read at least 12.6v it is not charged fully or is bad after you charge it for a while. If these new motors don't have enough starting amp/voltage it will not boot the computer up and fire the injectors or have enough juice for the flywheel to spin fast enough for the bendix to raise on the starter.
