I just bought a ski boat from a guy yesterday. My question is this:

I can't register the boat at the county clerk's office until Monday, but I'm wanting to get out on the water today. The boat was registered by the previous owner last week, so it has it's 2017 tags. This is the first boat I've boat so I just wanted to know if I would be okay taking the bill of sale and the previous owner's registration out on the lake and explaining to a TWRA officer that I just want to test the boat out today and am going to the county clerk's office Monday morning.

I'm assuming this probably wouldn't work, which is why I'm asking here.

Once the sale is made, it is NOT legal to operate the boat under the previous owner's registration. It will not be legal for you to operate the boat until you go to the county court clerk and get it registered in your name.

When you do the registration at the county court clerk's office, you will be given a temporary registration certificate that will be valid for thirty days. Your registration should arrive within that period. If for some reason it doesn't you will need to contact the TWRA boat registration section and let them know of the problem so they can reship if necessary and extend the period for the temporary registration.

I'm sorry for the incorrect info that you received before I deleted the posts. That is an example of why non-TWRA persons are not supposed to be posting on questions in this forum. Sometimes incorrect information can lead to legal issues.
