Thank you all for the replies to my ammo thread yesterday, really helped give me confidence in staying with my sighted in ammo. Got out at 7:30 because of how grown up stuff has got it was going to be hard to to get through in the dark. Sat down and had a couple of nice clear spot across the hill. Saw a couple of nice nanny does roll through and 3 bucks chasing before I shot mine. The others may have been bigger but it was hard to judge in the tall stuff looking at them. We have a super one but he never showed up. This buck came outta the bottom in between the hills and looked like a dozer pushing stuff over. He then started grazing on brush and looked bigger than he was with the grass and overgrowth and was broadside at 66 yds. I decided to pull the trigger and he dropped just standing there. Well guess he had his big doe friend in there with him cause she walked up within 10 yards and stomped at him to get up. She was a good size and figured might as well get her too. She was 70 yds. Shot and she took off and I watched her run up the hill and to the side out of sight. Walked back to the house and grabbed the truck and sled. When I went back I decided to find the doe first but get the buck out first. Went out where the buck was and decided I would need to get him out before gutting it because of all the seed on the weeds. I've never had to trail a deer very far and in this stuff you couldn't see the doe. So I found the trail which was just drops and followed it out 75 yards and found her. I walked within 15 yards headed to the original poi. Went and drug the buck out and with the overgrowth and briars it took allot. Took him to the doe and had the bright idea I'll throw them both in which that was good for 15 yards took buck out and it was so steep I knew it wouldn't happen. My truck isn't 4wd so I went and got my 48 8n and tied the sled with both to it and took it to the gate. The seed heads were so bad I grabbed the blower because about 3 inches of seeds were on them. It worked really good. It was a great day hunting and great birthday present. Had to add the big lefty dog in the background with her licking her chops.
