Just read where Wisconsin approved blaze pink for legal hunting. I think its a great idea for getting women into the sport.

I have had to retire my man card and have started putting white and pink fletchings on my arrows because they are easier to find in the woods. Almost nothing is pink on the forest floor.

I also have a Camo hat that has some pink it for for Breast Cancer Awarness. My son gives me hell for wearing it but every deer I killed during bow season the past two season has been killed while wearing this hat. The deer sure don't seem to mind it. Ive considered it my lucky hat.

Thoughts on other states adopting blaze pink for legal hunting???

Havent you been keeping up with the marketplace?

The manufactures have been coming out with complete lines of bows, guns and hunting apparel all aimed and targeted at getting women into the activity. There are even TV shows and TV show host geared towards women that are aimed at getting them involved in the sport. Women want to look pretty when they are hunting. Women do not see orange as a pretty colour for them. Unless they are some Vols fan wife or something. Then I guess they are ok with it.

That's actually not a bad idea. Come out with a whole line of cosmetics for women for hunting.,face paints and all.

I don't think the market can argue any longer that women are flocking to the woods more and buying products geared more to them.

I was standing in BPS looking at hats one day and saw one that had this weird opening on the back. It looked different than all the rest which is what first attracted me to it. But I could not figure out what the round hole in the back was for. When I asked I was told it was made for a pony tail to go through. I was like oh it's a woman's hat? he said no we have a lot of men that buy them too that put their hair through there too!.

I'm with DA on this one. The whole point of Blaze Orange is Safety. You want one standard color that is immediately and universally recognized as being another hunter. We don't need to have a bunch of different colors to have to recall and get confused over whether its some Fall leaf color or a hunters safety vest. Stick with Orange for everybody if you value human life more than fashion.

I can't believe that people are against this. I mean I'm not going to wear pink unless it's the law but there truly is no negative effect from it other then what your imagination can conjure up. If you were hunting and saw a bright patch of blazepink in the woods are you going to shoot it because everybody knows that orange is what humans wear in the woods so that must be a deer in pink? That sounds ridiculous. When I'm driving down the interstate and see construction I've never had a hard time avoiding the workers and guess what some of them were wearing orange and some were wearing yellow. It makes no difference. If your mad that it's tradition and or you just don't like to feminize hunting that's fine just say that.

70-4-124. Wearing daylight fluorescent orange color while hunting big game required -- Penalty.

(a) Every person hunting big game except turkey during the gun hunts proclaimed by the commission shall wear on the upper portion of the body and head outer garments of daylight fluorescent orange color of not less than five hundred square inches (500 sq. in.) and visible from the front and back.

(b) "Daylight fluorescent orange color" means having a dominant wave length between five hundred ninety-five thousandths (0.595) and six hundred five thousandths (0.605) nanometers, excitation purity of not less than eighty-five percent (85%) and a luminance factor of not less than forty percent (40%).

(c) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

(d) This section does not apply to a person hunting on that person's own property.

Since it is a state statute, it is not something the Commission can change.

Man i hope the comment "value human life" is just kidding and jerking our chain. Any one shooting anything should be 100% positive of what their target is before putting their sights on it much less pulling the trigger. One of the most disturbing comments from a hunter I have heard in a long time.

Now back to the subject. Personally I agree that any hi viz color is ok. I dont care if its pink with yellow poka dots if it works.

And as for women wanting to be fashionable, so what? Since my wife has started hunting my toy collection has grown, hunting time has increased, and I have help if need be. And if the cost is simply some pink and maybe purple stuff for her then who cares. I guess if a person has a daughter who not only wants to learn to hunt but actually loves it and their only vice is a little something extra to make them feel better or more comfortable while doing it then by some's standards they are SOL.

I may be wrong but I have yet to see a pink leaf in Tennessee... I am sorry for not valuing human life for wanting more women to get involved. Unbelievable.. If you can't tell rather a pink vest or an orange vest is a person and you actually have to think about it then you need to stop hunting.

To say that hunters ought to know what their target is before shooting will do nothing for the inexperienced hunter who fails to do that and kills somebody. You can say all the "Should have's" you want at that point and you can't call that bullet back. I say that if you want to practice safety with hunting - and SAFETY is the only reason for Blaze Orange - then you should stick to a standard color and not be changing things around constantly. You can't expect every single hunter to know the latest laws. I promise you most do not ever read a hunting guide but everybody knows that blaze orange is required to deer hunt.

I used to say that certain colors never appeared in nature but having more years experience in the woods now, I've seen a lot of colors under certain conditions with the sun hitting things just right. Sure a safe hunter should always know their target, but obviously we don't trust that to happen or we'd not need any bright colors for hunters clothes at all, would we?

I really don't care if somebody wants to wear pink or snot green if they want as it won't affect me personally. I hunt my own land only. Just making a common sense statement that any safety oriented plan should be simple and consistent.

In addition, if a woman says that she won't hunt because she prefers to wear pink rather than orange, I guarantee you she is not going to hunt long anyhow if at all. That's about the most flimsy excuse I've ever heard.

Anyone shooting anything ESPECIALLY with a gun should be 100% sure of their target AND whats beyond it before putting their sights on it and ESPECIALLY before pulling the trigger.I find it very disturbing that there is actually someone openly saying that the color of ones clothing completely over rides the most basic and fundamental points of gun safety. And the excuse for shooting someone is that they didnt have the correct color clothing on is the biggest most piss pour excuse or thought I have ever heard in my life.

I agree. I personally like the pink idea because I'm all about getting more women involved. I took my wife out and she got her first buck, I enjoyed that more than killing my own. Many women I think are intimidated by hunting, so who cares if they wear pink. I think it's a shame that we even have to wear safety colors at all. We should be able to wear all camo. Reason being is rule #1: never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to kill or destroy. If you can't remember this rule you don't need a firearm. It blows my mind that this is even a discussion.
