Got to make a couple sets after work and had a little success. Heard coyotes yipping in the creekbottoms the last couple of nights and again this afternoon, so i figured the resident pack was back in the area. Got a large creekbottom field at 435. I howled a few times with me tally ho call and got on the walker custom walnut with a raspy distress call. About 5 minutes in i noticed movement at the corner of the creek about 125 yards away. I scope it and i see the head and ears of a yote. as i watch it, i see another one cross behind it. i called a little more and he came about 3 or 4 yards closer, but wouldnt commit. i finally got where i could see his shoulder and let the kimber classic 7mm08 bark. the recoil surprised me as my normal yote gun is a cz 223 (which took a tumble yesterday). i saw a yote hauling tail in the field on the other side of the creek and wasnt sure if that was the i=one i shot at or not. went to where i though he was and nothing. then i heard splashing and he was throwing bubble everywhere. he had went about 5 yards. there was blood everywhere. i left him and made another set. it was dry. on the way out coyotes were howling everywhere. this is my third black one since dec 28th 2008. he was a young male- 31 pounds by my scale. probably a 2 yr old. he was black, but not as black as some of the other we have killed and he was trimmed in auburn. like every black i have ever seen, he had a small white chest patch. with a little luck, me and blue will be out of school on friday and give a couple more a short ride.
