Dang I got bit by a horsefly yesterday on the river. I swear it is worse than a red wasp.My ankle is all swollen. Been a long time since one of em got me.
 
Nothing makes a person jump like running a foxtail head backwards up the back of someone's leg at the swimming pool and yelling "HORSEFLY!"
 
Dang deer flies too!! I was fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and decided before lunch to take a little jog from my camp to a friends about 2 miles away. Dang deer flies and horse flies almost carried me away...

Back in the day when the bait store was in your backyard, we used to trap horse flies in the back of a car window. When you catch 'em, start at the back side of the fly and feed the hook to the head like a cricket. We used to put 'em on a #4 or #6 hook under a bobber or on a trotline and catch the hell outta bluegill and catfish.
