One of my past times is working on bikes and doing a custom build or two now and then.
Two yrs ago I was dating a girl who was rather short, even after a lowering kit on her 883 sporty she couldn't touch the ground while sitting on the bike, so along came the idea.........Trike.

Here are some pics of the project.........

It worked out so well that a guy I know saw it and was having problems with his legs and not able to ride much anymore.........well Trike #2 was last summer............

I have two more in in limbo, folks waiting on tax returns before the builds can start.................fun, fun, fun.

Not to mention my own that is in pieces all over the shop floor.

Rowdy,

I did follow up work on both of those bikes after the Trike conversions....

The Sporty got PC3 upgrade, custom V&H 2-1 Pro Series exhaust(you can see that in the pics) I wish they made those pipes for the Big Twins..........That little Sporty roared, Highway lights and a detachable tour pack was added a month later for road trips.

The Heritage got a frt. end swap, new trees with a 6.5 deg rack, it dropped the frt. 2", streched it out just over 10" and helped the steering huge after the trike kit was added. It was like adding power steering to the darn thing.

Wait 'til you see my personal project................'83 Lowrider with a Shovel; total frame up custom.

FD...outa curiosity, how much time you have wrapped up in the conversions, and what would a ballpark cost be?

I knew that would come up sooner or later................LOL

The sport kit was @ $4800 w/fender kit I had 11 hrs. in the build, 4 hrs in the prep and paint.

The Heritage (@$ 5600.00) it was more labor intensive, I had 16 hrs in the build and 5 hrs in prep and paint, the frt. end swap took about 7 hrs.

Now that I have done them once I could shave hrs off the time.

I was just curious, there's a place near Murray ky that does a lot of'em....Dunniguns (sp?), I believe is the name of the place.

I was just wondering how their mark-up compares to your actual cost.

Frankenstien, top quality stuff........all alum. housing, Dana rear ends, quality wheels and tires.

The company is great to deal with and customer service was top notch.

Thanks, appreciate it.

Yea, funny how that works..................prejudgin' folks before you know anything about'm.

They both turned out great.

The Sporty was featured in a magazine article for women riders sometime last yr. Some private owned magazine...........

Now I'm no bike expert but does that not make for a positive traction rear end?
How does that affect the turning? I've reade the tilt angle on kits is about 12 degrees.

Yes to the possy trac, they are actually Dana rearends.

The steering is effected greatly because there is no more lean in the turns, you now actually have to steer the bike.

I am not sure what you mean by "tilt angle" on kits???

If you are referring to the rack of the frt suspension and the change that occurs with the addition of the kit. The average rack (angle of forks/tubes) on a stock bike is @ 29.5 - 31 degs.

This made the steering the bikes after kit install more difficult, because it changed the rack and trail of the bike. I installed a set of 6 degs triple trees on the Heritage, which corrected the steering difficulty greatly, it lowered the frt end @ 1.5" and stretched the frt. end out @ 11" further out with the stock tubes, thus putting the trail back into the sweet spot.

The difference was like adding power steering to it. The sporty was much lighter in weight and the owner opted to pass on the triple tree install. I did get a call asking if I would do it if she opted to spend the extra $550.00 for the trees.
