I never got used to a release with a wrist strap. Maybe it was because it made my draw lenght too long. Not to say I couldn't get used to one with the proper set-up, but I'm wondering what is the better/best thumb release (not too $$$$)?

You can get a trigger forward wrist strap release that doesn't move your anchor so far back . Proper adjustment of the wrist strap also helps . I use a Scott Little Bitty Goose NCS .

I shoot a Tru Fire 360 elite.
The trigger, wriststrap,and ratchet adjustable head, makes it very hunter friendly.

I have a scott Wildcat also that I use as a back-up.
It's a quality product also.

Each work well.

If you're dead set on thumb releases you can't beat a Carter.

A finger trigger release that's adjustable like the one Radar mentioned though can be set to get a really good anchor. I like velcro and use a TRUBall Short'n'Sweet b/c I can get the release exactly where I want it.

I would be up for anything if my anchor point is good, especially with a new bow. I tried using a wrist type release with my current draw lenght which made my anchor point too far back.... I could hardly get my arrows to 1n a 12" circle at 30 yards.....

I like to anchor with my index knuckle on my ear , and string to the tip of my nose , with the release strap adjusted short enough to put the trigger between my 1st and 2nd knuckle .

I have to use a very small kisser button to get a consistant anchor. Probably not a good thing to become dependant upon,but I can't shoot without it now.

Then my thumb behind/side of my neck,and everything settles into place from there.

I had the same problem w/anchor until I got a short-n-sweet.Find a shop that will let you try-before-you-buy.

i use a greene's gator jaw(like a d-loop without the d-loop), kisser button(hard for me to use peep in low light). i adjust the release so that my index hooks the trigger in the first knuckle. i set my draw length a little shorter on my hunting bow.

Same here. My release is a Fletchunter and I love it. It's a wrist strap but I have it adjusted so tight that I don't feel it messes with my release point much at all. Not sure where you're located but if you're in the Mt. Juliet / Lebanon / Murfreesboro / Smyrna area you're more than welcome to try it.
