Have a bunch of family coming in from out of state for Thanksgiving. Was thinking about getting a couple Benton hams, are they worth it? If so, which one do you recommend? The 24 month aged ham is not a choice for me at $275. Also wanted to try their bacon, probably the smoked bacon end pieces since it's $9 for 2 lbs.

I think the bacon is really salty, its better for sandwiches/dishes than just eating a strip of bacon. We get ribeyes and hotdogs there regularly but never had the ham. The hotdogs are the best I've ever had.

Is it a country ham? Is it sliced or whole? I'm not sure a country ham would serve as a holiday meal centerpiece like a spiral-cut "city ham"

This is an option near Memphis that sells these spiral-cut hams. I haven't had one in a while, but it was great before. Not the "honey baked" super sweet style, either. This is $129, but I think they charge extra to FedEx outside the Memphis area

The bacon.......to me and the rest of my family that tried it......its a hard pass. Smells like dirty feet when it is being cooked and doesn't taste much better. The texture is terrible. So don't buy a bunch of it until you decide you like it.
Have not tried the ham so can't comment.

Fry the bacon outside, if not your house will smell like it for a week 🤣
@chimneyman taught me this lesson…except he didn't warn me. He graciously bought several of us some Benton's bacon one year as gifts. And I am still very thankful, that's just the kinda person he is….one of the best ever

But I kindly asked him not to bring me anymore 😂

The ham slices are good, a properly cooked country ham is said to be great, I k iw there are a lot of folks who do it reading around. Ham is alright but I like turkey better for holidays, ham I can get anytime

We usually do ribeyes for Thanksgiving and the last two years we got them from Bentons.

Well the smoke profile isn't the cleanest 🤣, it really has a lot of smoke in it, Alan took me and the wife on a tour of there when we stopped by with my buddy who he is friends with, they smoke with 2 old cast iron pot bellied stoves, you would think something automated but no the old way is still working well. To say the hickory is strong in those rooms is a understatement 🤣.

I know a lot of people like them but I cannot eat their bacon... way to salty and/or overly smoked. To me the ham is not worth it... to each his own but it is your money.

Their bacon is so salty to me, it's inedible. Like gargling in warm salt water or something. Someone else said it smells like cooking dirty socks....I couldn't describe it any better if I tried. It must be a niche taste/smell to like it. I love smoked ham and anything smoked really. But theirs is a whole different smell to me.

Wow, alot of differing opinions. I'll give them a try; my expectations are a lot lower now than they were.

I absolutely love the bacon! However, I can understand how some folks wouldn't like it, it is very salty but I like that. It's a little overwhelming by itself but on a sandwich or burger etc, I think it's great! The sausage is good, but I can smoke my own and not tell a difference. Never had their ham.
