The beaver are back and have built a nice damn that is backing water up onto my property. Talked to Corps of Engineers and they "highly" recommend tearing out the dam, but you have to get rid of the beaver first.
Any idea how to hunt these things? Morning, evening, etc? Totally foreign to me, but I've got some 22lr rounds with their names on it.

Trapping will be your best bet. Otherwise, you'll need a permit to hunt them at night. They don't move much in daylight. I'd rethink the.22. They are tougher than you think!

I've never done any trapping, except for live box traps. I think there is a pretty good learning curve there.

i've been shooting them mostly with a 22 mag.. sometimes a .223

if your serious about getting them out, hire a professional trapper.. that's what i am fixing to have to do.. i am sick & tired of them.. i've caught them in leghold traps, and i've shot several right at dark when they first come out..

somewhere on your body of water, on the bank, there should be a place they always come out & check first.. its like a "scent marking" spot.. the beavers on our lake always come out and go straight to it, i guess to see if any "new beavers" have showed up or freshen their scent... its much easier to shoot them when they are out of the water.. when swimming, just about all you can see is their head..

Best bait to hunt with right here.

Have shot beaver in many locales: lakes, rivers, streams where legal. Used everything from a .308 on down. Majority with a .22 using LR. Head shoot them. They have very soft skulls, aim for the ear. Sit tight after the shot. Trapping is the fastest way to cut them back.

I'll be out tomorrow looking for sheds along the creek. I've seen them before during the day, so will keep an eye out.
