To start I haven't seen a deer from the tree this season but only bow hunted maybe 5 times. My muzzleloader wasn't shooting right last year and I really don't have the money to get my muzzleloader permit anyways being unemployed so I took the crossbow with me yesterday and had a deer blow at me a few times around 8:30am. Well I went back to the same place this morning and while getting out of my truck I see a big bodied deer coming down the hill across the road and going to where I'm hunting. I could tell he was a decent buck probably a 6pt. Well I let him get to where I thought he wouldn't see me when I walked thru the field to my stand then I hurried across the field and got in the stand in a creek bottom. Not 10 mins later I turn around and see him coming down the ridge to me and I'm standing up and trying to lean around the tree to keep the crossbow limb from smacking the tree I'm in. He stops and I shoot but never seen the bolt so I don't even know if I hit him or not. He trotted back up the ridge and started blowing and after a few mins he just walked back up around the ridge. I get down and see blood on the fletching but it's only fat and meat. He never lost a drop of blood even where he stood for a few mins blowing at me so I think I hit him high in the backstraps. I think I walked up on him or a buck around the size an hour or so later while walking out and he acted fine but never could get a shot that time. On the plus side I did get to finally see some deer and get the adrenaline flowing. I went back and checked my cams to see if I got a pic of him before I shot but I still couldn't tell what he was and I had a pic of a bigger buck going by my stand 30 mins before I got there and a nice 10pt at 9:30pm last night. New rubs and a scrape have shown up in the last few days.
