I am looking at broadcasting some arrow leaf clover in my plot this fall along with winter wheat and cereal Rye. Is there any specific brand of arrow leaf clover that is recommended?
^^^This^^^Yuchi is what I've used in the past & had plots waist high with it. It is a later maturing clover but yields a lot of forage.
Depends on the planting density. Arrowleaf can grow VERY tall. I've had it growing out the top of a 4' exclusion cage. At a high planting density, that could shade out lower-growing plants. Will it negatively affect the Ladino clover and chicory that is already established?
Know nothing about chicory, but have had it mixed with Landino at 5#/acre & it was fine. Will it negatively affect the Ladino clover and chicory that is already established?
Just remember Arrowleaf is an annual while Balansa is a perrenial. Is that better than balansa?
I didn't realize Balansa was a perennial. Would it do well with wheat in a September throw and mow?Just remember Arrowleaf is an annual while Balansa is a perrenial.
I used to use it for that reason. I would mix (into VERY poor-soil plots) Crimson, Arrowleaf, and Wheat. Made for great fall/winter/spring plots, and a lot of biomass to mow down onto the soil. Even tried adding some Alyceclover to fill in summer growth in an attempt to make it a full-year annual plot. Alyceclover grew fine but I saw little indication the deer were eating it.From the looks of Arrowleaf and how much it yields, it would seem to me to be a great adder for a new/existing plot. The food and thatch, after it is mowed and after it dies in late summer, that it would provide is almost a no brainer. I might try a small amount, in the fall, mixed with my winter wheat and cereal rye.
Balansa is an annual clover, but volunteer reseeding is heavy after it's establishedJust remember Arrowleaf is an annual while Balansa is a perrenial.
Thank you Mega. I did not know that.Balansa is an annual clover, but volunteer reseeding is heavy after it's established
