Found them on my place in Lincoln, Co. about 5 or 6 years ago. First sign was a big yellow jacket nest dug out of the ground. Was happy about that. Then some big fire ant nests were raided. Again, happy about that. But now they are ripping my yard apart and I'm afraid of them raiding turkey nests. Will have to break out the M-rod very soon...

They won't raid a turkey nest, the only thing they will eat is something that they have dug up.. worms, grubs...
 
I bet their babies are cute… What do you call a baby armadillo?

How do you catch these things in your yard… Some type of cage trap?
 
They must truly be a "hard-shell" possum.

A few years ago I walked up one that absolutely looked dead.
I walked up to within 2 feet, and was wondering just how it could look so good for being dead ---- then it suddenly jumped up and ran off ---- and they can run very fast!
So can the regular "soft-shell" possums when they want to and aren't just playing possum.
 
I did not know they posed a problem. I thought they just ate pests like termites and other insects. What other problems do they pose?

They will destroy your garden and flowerbeds and dig thousands of holes in your fields. Cutting hay or bushhogging is terrible now with all the holes, constantly bouncing up and down. Also I believe they are part of the reason our turkey population hadn't rebounded where I live so I've waged war on them.

I notill corn , wheat and or beans each year.. this fall while drilling in my wheat it was like riding a bucking bronco... I thought my tractor was going to break in half from all the freaking dillo holes... now I gotta go in there and disc it real good before I plant next spring

Had a lab once that found a nest and brought back baby dillos for about 4 days. The last day she brought one home the momma was in tow. Funny sight to see.

I had one get under the house and have babies. I live trapped all of them. Did you know that whenever they have babies that all of them are always the same sex. Each one of them is also genetically identical to the other as well.

I think that is very strange and interesting. I remember reading a couple years ago on the Tennessee Watchable Wildlife site, that armadillos always give birth to 4 young that are identical same sex quadruplets!
