Anyone ever go on a Mountian Lion hunt?

Thinking about trying it next year.
They say March is the time to go in NM.
Any advice?
And yes, I will drive there, if gas stays under $5.40 a gallon.

Been three times so far. Twice in Utah and once in AZ. Have not killed, but it's been my choice. I only want one cat and am looking for a 150#+ tom. Currrently building points in Utah and will probably cash them in next year.

Cat hunting is the absolute most physical hunt that I have ever been on. I have never sheep hunted, but have been on numerous elk hunts including backpack bivvy style. Climbing mtns & canyons in waist deep snow is a killer!

Anytime that there is deep enough snow to push the mule deer to foothills is good. I usually go in late Jan or Feb when all the other seasons are closed.

Oh yeah, this is one hunt that I always fly to instead of drive. It doesn't take much gear at all and usually stay in motel. You need a good pair of wool pants, well broken in waterproof boots, gaiters & duck tape to help seal out snow. I take my bow and check it as my one bag. The rest goes in my backpack in overhead storage.

When I kill, I'll leave cat with taxidermist our west to mount. IMO - I have never seen one that was done in our part of country that looked right, and I want a full body mount.

no but had one hunting me one time
horse gashed its leg pretty bad one time out in wyoming and even though we bound it up as best we could we were still leaving blood here and there
he got scent of us and trailed up almost all the way down the mountain
i guess the human scent was just a little more than he wanted to risk
he never did get within 50 yards of us
we didn't have any weapons with us because we were taking a bunch of kids for a trail ride from a home for abused children
i was more worried about the horses getting spooked than i was the mountain lion
some of the kids had never been on a horse before
