What ever happened to all the single shots ?? used to every house you walked into had a old single shot propped up in the corner, consider'n how many ther were you dont see many around.

Been think'n about start'n me a collection before ther long gone.

I got an old 12 ga single shot, dont even know the brand right off. It was my great grandads. Dern thing kicks like a mule lol.

Oldest one I have here is a Stevens Little Scout .22 rifle. Had been my grandpa's and I shot my first coon out of a tree with it almost 50 years ago...still shoots as good as it ever did. ;)

I still have a few, my favorite is an Ithaca 20 gauge, that beleive it or not is a lever action single shot. I keep it in the rack on my Polaris Ranger.
Picked it up at a yard sale several years ago.

Got a Stevens 12 gauge single shot that was my great grandfathers. Also have a 16 gauge winchester my grandmother bought me at a yard sale. Also have a bolt action single shot 22 that was my grandpa's.

its not a single shot but i'v got my grandfathers old double barrel 12 gauge made by saint louis arms that doesn't even have a serial number
the only blueing left on it is in the dents in the barrels "whar the inlaws got uppity" as he used to say

I have several single shots & double barrels . All were hand-me-downs. I take my ithaca double out sometimes & shoot skeet. There is something that just feels good when holding double barrels !

I've had a bunch of'em, mostly 12 ga.a few 20s and .410s, the last one I bought was aold Model 37 Winchester red letter that was in better than average shape, should've kept it.

As far as rifles go I've had 2 of the hadi rifles, a 30-06 & a .243, at first ther great gun, untill the hinge pin bends anyway, also had one of the Remington/Balkai single shots, the trigger needed work but it shot great.

I thinks its the simplicity that I love about'em, easy to carry & mostly trouble free.

Trapdoor and 74 Shiloh Sharps in 45/70, C. Sharps 85 in 40/65, C. Sharps 75 in 38/55, BSA Martini in .22LR

Oh yeah I forgot a couple, my T/C Encore in .243. It's my go to rifle if i'm just walking around. Killed several deer with it.
Also have a T/C contender chambered in 30 30. Killed a couple of does with it but never dropped the hammer on a buck with it. Kicks like a mule with full house 150 gr reloads, and is super LOUD!!!

I have a .22 that belonged to my Grandaddy. Old enough that it don't have a serial #. When I had it reblued and the stock refinished I had a serial # of sorts stamped on the barrel. It's my Grandaddys 3 initials, my dad's 3 initials, my 3 initials and my sons 3 initials all on one side of the barrel by the receiver. My son and his kids/grandkids will start on the opposite side of the barrel with initials of whomever it passes to.

I have an old .410 my father gave me many years ago and a .223 the first gun I ever bought. I haven't shot the .410 in a long time but the .223 still gets a few rounds thru it from time to time.

Great, inexpensive guns.

most people get them, paint them up, put a huge scope on them, swear they are tack drivers, then try to sell them

how far out have you taken the 40-65, I am at 300 yards for the next few months, printing at 4-7 inches, 10 shot group, if I do my part, very interesting shooting and a fun challenge

I have shot it at that distance but its been quite awhile ago. I don't remember much about the group other than, at the time, I figured it was pretty good. Your 4-7 inches for 10 shots sounds excellent to me, especially if that 7 represents a wide shot or two. It's really tuff to get off 10 perfect shots even from a rest.

Chaneylake....your posting inspired me to drag my 40/65 and 38/55 out this past weekend and burn up what little ammo I had loaded up. I wouldn't doubt that the ammo was 4 or 5 years old. I was shooting all offhand and after dailing in the sights I proceeded to shoot at a 12" steel plate at 100 yds. I had no trouble in hitting it nearly everytime with the misses being just poor form on my part. Kinda rusty on my offhand shooting too....Great fun with real black powder and old time single shots.

I only own one single shot; well, one single shot breechloader anyway, & it's not really a corner-leaner.

Love the thing to death, but it's a bit of a bear to carry around the hills!
