Any Presidents island updates?

I was there. It was tough hunting due to the unseasonal warm weather and windy conditions. The island has changed since I was last there in 2009 from the floods. A lot of the ground that was hunt able is now grown up and hard to access. It seems most of the mature bucks moved some mid day then at night as I seen several driving back in every evening. First I would like to commend the TWRA staff there. Super nice guys, very approachable and eager to help as needed. Second I wish they would incorporate a different methodology especially since Ensley is no longer in play. Maybe 3 hunts a year. 35-40 hunters per. Bow in late October, Bow in mid November, and maybe a muzzleloader in early December. That would open opportunities to draw sooner for the October, November hunts and allow the "die hards" to feel better compensated with higher points to hold out for the December hunt. The 12-14 year wait is too long for such a magical place.

I drew in 2009 too. I didn't kill though. I should br able to go back on a year or two.

I talked to Chris Parks earlier today. Aside from the 2 shot, he said there was a few hunters that made some misses this weekend. He also said these hunters drew with 13 priority points. So at 30 hunters on the December hunt, I take it the number of points to draw will climb even higher.

With it taking more priority points to draw and the harvest totals have looked pretty bad since 2017, I'd probably bow out of trying if I didn't have 10 points now. Like I said before, you an equal chance of killing a buck of the same caliber on any other WMA or Refuge along the Mississippi River.
