That is my greatest pet peeve.

To fully understand just how stupid that is, you would have to know the area and the hunters. What they really need is to close the season completely for two years.

That's ridiculous "close the season completely for two years"...Also, biased as heck is Schneider's take on what the DNR and local sportsmen/women clubs are trying to accomplish.

It goes back to history of the old deer camps where once in awhile someone could in fact "see" a big buck and maybe if luck was with them they could bag one for the buck pole...and bragging rights. Nowadays you are lucky to see any deer in that area.

Don't be too quick to judge what's taking place unless you are part of it, day in and day out...not just years ago or once in awhile

I was thinking the same thing, Bowriter. I used to hunt AEDC but quit going up there when deer sightings got as rare as those of quail. I think a completely closed year or two is sometimes the smart thing to do. If you don't have hardly any deer, stop shooting them!

I feel for both sides in the situation. You have a high density of hunters hunting a low-density deer herd. How can you ever get age structure into the buck population when there aren't enough living bucks to go around even with a 1 buck limit?

Personally, I do not like to see QDM legislated. It should be voluntary. However, I think enough evidence exists that having older bucks in the population is good for the deer herd that producing older bucks is a part of the state's job. Now, how to do that without restricting hunters too much?

In my personal preference, I would prefer seeing a lottery draw for buck tags before I would want to see antler restrictions.

The old coach also said don't be to quick to judge...like in "how many meetings did you attend" type thing. BW, you can't close an area where there are people trying to enjoy their sport and that is why the DNR is trying other options....And you also can't "close a season for two years" while sitting on some choice hunting property in TN and shooting darts at the old fellers in this hunting area who can't go anywhere else. So, got any pics?

Most of my comments were directed at the trophyist idea brought up...that is not what I believe is happening here...just trying to get some bucks for these guys to hunt.

Limited license hunts are now being utilized for doe BSK...it may not be a bad idea for bucks in this area. I believe the LLH are in the DMU areas...

I didn't say it was good for the hunters. My point was, the ridiculous restrictions will do nothing to solve the problem. That could be done by closing the seasons. Proper wildlife management does not always mean making the hunters happy. Of course it can't be done. But it should be. That was my point.
