I want to buy two new scope this year. I want to replace the one on my remington 700 ML and on my remington 742. I'm thinking leupold vx1 in a 3x9x40 does anyone have any other recomendations? Buying two of these from bass pro not on sale and before taxes is gonna run me a little over $450 but I guess I can't go wrong with leupold.

Cabela's has both VX-I and VX-II scopes on sale right now. I got a great deal on a VX-II last week.

Take a look at the front page of their website also. You can sign up for their email offers and immediately get $20 off any purchase over $150. Just use a junk email address...

The new VX2's are coming out which I imagine is why Cabelas has a sale on Luepolds now. You might want to shop around before running out and buying a Leupold. Of course, the open box cameraland deal on Minox ZA3's can't be beat.

That doesn't make the "old" ones any worse. ;) I'm thrilled to have picked one up at good price.

VXII's are not any worse than they were before the VX2's come out but that does not mean they are as good as a VX2. Cabelas wants to have the VXII's off the shelf before they start carrying the VX2's. They did the same thing with the VXIII's just before the VX3's came out.

I would get two Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 scopes. They can be found for $200 and IMHO have better glass than the VX1. Also consider the Sightron and Vortex scope lines. Minox makes a good scope, but the light weight worries me.

Another option is to buy one Zeiss Conquest this year for $400 and get another one next year. Hard to beat the Zeiss for $400.

Keep your eyes open and stay on the gun boards. Now that deer season is over there will be quite a few scopes to be had from the guys who buy for deer season and then sell when season closes.
