That is odd. Maybe the timber company? Especially if the property has changed hands between timber companies recently. I put a cable with a lock across a side road into the very front of the lease just to keep anyone from driving in that section. I had way more cable than I needed so I coiled it up by the tree to cut off later. When I went by there Saturday, the entire assembly had been cut and removed. All of the cable, cable clamps, lock and even the cable spool. I chalked that up to theft. Somebody driving by decided they liked that new 100' of 3/8" cable more than me I guess.
Btw, one of AMPs largest timber companies they lease through has recently been selling off chunks of their land. Some you can find online but the majority sells off the market at auctions. I asked if my lease was for sale and was told timber land is technically always for sale in some form or fashion and that most will never be advertised.
