Ok so i've got an Encore with a .270 barrel. Have not had to re set my scope one time since i put a Nikon on it about 4 years ago. Hasn't been bumped and when it's off it sits in the back of the safe. I did however take my regular encore stock off and put a pro hunter stock and forearm on it. Shot my gun today and about 6 inches high. It's perfect for right to left just high. Within 3 shots had it hitting right on again? Would me changing the stock out have something to do with it? It is a lot ligher now but never would have thought it would make a difference like that.

Were you using the same exact ammo as before?

Yes same ammo. That's my pet peeve lol. I don't shoot different ammo than what is sighted in with.

Your actions screw torque can change your group size as well. I don't have any experience with an encore but my savage 308 went from 3/4 inch groups to well over an inch after taking the stock during a cleaning. Readjusted the stock screws and it went back to normal

I tried to manually tighten all screws to the same feel since I don't own a torque wrench. Of course that method is kind of guaranteed to cause you misery. You may think you have it right and you just might. OTOH, maybe not. and that is where I always seem to end up.

The correct way is to get a torque wrench that is in foot-inches. Tighten to factory specs and write it down. Zero the rifle. If the zero shifts, the screw may not be tight enough, this is why Pillar bedding is so freaking nice to have.

I am glad you are not crazy because that would make us all crazy. And your question reminded me to stop procrastinating and get a torque wrench. And check into pillar bedding again.
