I'm looking to take a family trip to Canada in 5 years, and in my limited research am leaning toward NW Ontario. My family will be going with me, although I will likely be the only one hunting. Im not a trophy Hunter, and don't care how big the moose is, so long as it's a bull with more than just spikes. I'd like to hunt for 4 days or so, then spend another 4-5 days experiencing Canada with the family. My now-9 year old daughter wants to see the northern lights, but beyond that we really have no specific plans. Any input would be appreciated.

Can't help with northwest Canada but I killed a B&C eastern Canadian moose in Newfoundland in 2013.my buddy went back this year and killed a small bull(it was charging them he shot it at 3yrds)this is probably the cheapest moose hunt you can go on.think it was $4,500. This year

Thank you for the response. I had considered Newfoundland, and have actually talked to a few guides there. The ferry rates for 5 people were a little bit of a concern, and I don't know what else there is for the family to do there. Did you see the Northern Lights while you were there? What else is there to do for a family? Do you mind sharing your guide/outfitters information? Did they offer caribou hunts as well?

Guide we used is caribou pond.not sure about other things to do all we did was hunt, didn't see the northern lights they have a lot of woodland caribou.we flew and I think it was almost a grand for the flight.if u do go take a bow and some small game tips there are grouse everywhere.

I've given thought to Newfoundland, just not sure on the logisitical aspects of hunting there.
The lottery should open up next month for moose in New Brunswick, not great odds but better than NH, ME, and VT for a nonresident.
I plan on adding NB to my list of lotteries entered.

I to went to Newfoundland for Moose. I went in 2007. I used Island Safaris as my Outfitter. Shot the first Moose I saw 6 hours into the hunt. He was a 42" 9 point. My guild, Deon Dicks was able to film the Bull as he came in and me as I shot the Bull. Short, but sweet hunt. Nice 8 hour Ferry ride, I timed it at night and rented a bunk for the ride.

Alright guys, it looks like things have changed... For logistical reasons it will be much easier to make a western trip with the family, so I plan to do an elk hunt. Gonna try to combine a rifle elk hunt in October with a trip to the Grand Canyon and the painted desert with the family. For now...

I guess it all works out for the best, as a coworker stated "elk hunt while your young, then you can moose hunt when you get old and broken down." I guess I hadn't thought about it that way

I'm leaning towards Colorado due to cost and accessibility. My brother and dad have used an outfitter in the NW corner that is reasonable and provides a service that would probably be fairly low impact to the rest of the non hunting family, but I have quite a bit of research to perform over the next few years. I m all ears
