My 20ga only weighs a little over 5 lbs and kicks almost as much as my 12 ga 3.5 shell.Gonna look at adding sand or lead, about two lbs. What would you suggest using?

Just glue it into the sides of the butt of the gun. Easiest is to get lead strings that people use for duck decoys so you can distribute the weight well.

Just be careful how much you add as it can really put an imbalance in the gun. It's really hard to add it at the fore end of the gun.

When you squeeze the trigger on that Longbeard you'll never feel it. No way I'd want to add any weight. These days I'm trying to go as light as I can with my gun and pack. If dead set on it the link Ren posted above would work.
I know it would not matter shooting a turkey but a paper target is a different story all together!!

j/k…I used to hate shooting those 3 1/2" turkey loads in a Mossberg 835 before the season so I get it.

I've about decided not to do it, just live with the kick. The main reason I bought a 20 ga was for lighter recoil but it's so light in weight that it kicks pretty hard, may just use my 12 ga 3.5 inch.My 12 ga shoots a great pattern with Longbeard #5, very confident out to 50 yards but most of my shots 30 yards or closer!

Put a grind to fit Limbsaver on it.

A guy I shoot with got his grandson a youth 20. I told him it would tag him if he wasn't careful. He laughed because he shoots 3.5" 12 gauge, cuz he's a real man and a 20 is a woman's gun. Lol

I saw him a few days later with 2 busted lips snd a loose tooth. He crawled the stock and since 20's don't kick he let his thumb knuckle walk right into his mouth. He was surprised at how hard the ultra light 20's hit with turkey loads.

Those 3 1/2" Longbeard 5's are evil on a bird. That's what I shot in my 12 when I hunted with it. If I kill 1 this year with the 20 I may tote the 12 for old time sake.

Here is a pound and a half of tape weights. I was looking for lead wheel weights, but this would work. Having an adhesive back, and being scored in half ounce segments...you could put them where you wanted without them rattling around.

I did this to a Handi Rifle .444 that was too end-heavy. I used lead shot in a ziploc and wrapped it in duck tape. I filled half the stock with packing peanuts, dropped in the weight, then filled the rest up. That worked well for me.

You may be able to get a magazine cap recoil reducer, just depends on the gun. They also make them that clamps to the barrel.

Slip a limbsaver recoil pad on it, makes a huge difference. Used one for my son years ago. I found it out quickly when I patterned it myself. I went to all semi automatic eventually.

Now, THIS is a perfect reason to handload TSS...

If you are recoil shy, I'd find someone willing to load you up a 1000 fps 1 1/4oz payload. Should be a pussycat.

Just use the 12. Whats the point of packing a 20 except to lose weight? My 20 will jar your teeth out but it weighs a lot less than my 3.5 12s do. I switched to a 20 to get rid of the weight, I can live with the kick.
