A Walk Down Memory Lane

Earlier this afternoon, i was looking for something and came across a stack of my yearly appoiintment books. I picked out 1987 at random. I was one busy sonagun.

According to my book, I left TN on August 17 to go Houston. On the 20th, I was in Atlanta for Buckarama. I was home one day and left for a caribou hunt. I returned to TN on Sept. 1 and left on Sept.3 for an elk hunt.

It continued that way through mid-January. I have no idea if I made any money or not but I sure logged the air miles. Also in the book was a reminder for me to call Sam Lashlee (some of you may know him), and I have no idea what I would contact him for.

Kinda neat reading, glad I kept them.

In those days, between doing my own hunting and fishing, I spoke at about 18-outdoor shows and had my own guide business. I was gone alot. I wish Ihad spent more time athome with my kids.

Don't we all wish we had spent more time with our kids but work was work.

I think back on that when everybody says, "You have the perfect job." In '95, when we were working ourbutts off to get three videos out, between Sept. 1 and Jan.1, I was home exactly seven days. That is not the perfect job.

Also during that same period, there was one stretch of 33-days, that I was in a tree somewhere every day. Try hunting 33-days in a row, regardless of weather. I think you'll agree, it is not the perfect job.

And just for kicks, try hunting seven days straight in IA and speak at a sportsmens banquet in New Jersey on the eighth day.

I second that emotion. I would love to sit around with him just to hear the stories and see the pictures. I remember bowriter on tn outdoorsman with jimmy holt. I believe you had a buck on that wall in the background that you got at cheatam?

Had forgotten about that. I'll bet that was it.

Remember, that was back when used real film. I did not take many pictures. Sad thing is, so many of the pictures were sent to magazines and they have still have them...or threw them out. Back then, when you took apicture, you seldom had a dopy made. So, when you sent it off, it was gone and most mags did not return them.

back then, I was writing for about 12-15 different publications and as a result, my picture files are pretty slim. I wouold sure love to have some of them back. You might send 15-20 pictures with ana rticle, they might use four or five. But they kept them all.
