Well summer always makes for slower times in the predator hunting... not out of season but just to hot to get out there... I've been selling a few calls, not been in the "mood" to make to many with the heat. Thought I'd show a few to ya'll though. I guess it's been over a year ago I bought a piece of stabilized Walnut burl that just knocked my eyes out... held on to it wanting to make something extra nice with it... then I took my family to Gatlinburg for a little vacation... ran across a little knife shop that had a lot of Ivory carvings... noticed in the floor a few large pieces of ivory and talked my way into them.. (good gawsh the price of the ivory!!!) I bought 2 pieces.. one was ancient Walrus tusk Ivory and the other was a piece of pre ban elephant Ivory... (2" of the walrus, and a hollow of the elepahnt.. $400!) well I "married" the walnut with a piece of the elephant Ivory.. here it is:
Walnut burl barrel, elephant Ivory bead, and Hippo Ivory toneboard (this sold for $175):
As far as what I've done to-date with the Walrus...
This is a Red Mallee burl barrel with an ancient Walrus tusk Ivory bead, and a Hippo Ivory toneboard.... (this sold for $175):
This is a Hippo Ivory barrel with a Hippo Ivory tonebord (sold for $250)
On the lower end of the "spectrum" on of our local "scrub" trees... This is a spalted (started to rot) Hackberry barrel with a Buffalo Horn bead, and Buffalo horn toneboard that I recently sold for $75.
Hope you've enjoyed the pics!
