friend of mine has a 700 BDL 243 that is in box unfired and the bolt hasn`t been put in gun,,we tried to run down how old it is,,it has the j lock so that narrows it quite a bit,,but the bbl is not stamped with the letters determining the actuall date it was made,,the folks at rem saud they did not stamp the bbls from 8-99 to 9-01 or something like that,,he wanted to know if it would make a diference in what it`s worth.

I figured it would be worth whatever a 100% rem 700 BDL would cost, but with the J-lock I would rather have a new one,but they are gettin pricey

Have no ideal on If there would be a difference in "worth" but everything is getting pricey.

Why is the jlock a big deal? You dont have to use it! Throw the key away and forget its on the rifle!

That's one issue... the ugly wart on the side of the firing pin shroud.

But there are reports that the j-lock makes the trigger less crisp as well as increasing lock time.

Figure around $40 to replace the bolt shroud and firing pin.
