It's almost here folks. 4 weeks from right now my son and I will be headed south to Columbus Mississippi to open up the 2014 turkey season! I'm starting to get pumped!

3 weeks and I'll be chasing longbeards on The Big Cypress WMA in South Florida ;)

3 weeks for me, headed way south for the first time. Hunted plenty down south, but never at the end of the world so to speak.

I was hoping to take a turkey trip to Alabama with the wife during her spring break but then found out her break is the week before it opens in Alabama. South Florida seems like a heck of a drive.

Same here. Maybe we can meet up down there.
Are you hunting The Cypress.
I answered your pm. Yes we are hunting the Cypress. It will be our first time there.
10-4 I'll be huntin and camping on the Bear Island Unit north of The Alley. Let me know where ya'll are going to be and I'll be glad to meet up with you. Been huntin in there since I could walk.

Glad I gave y'all somewhere to discuss Florida turkeys. Pretty sad to hijack a thread about a kid's youth hunt. I guess everyone doesn't have the "new topic" button.

Yea, sorry about the high jack, for some reason I am unable to send pm's at times and should have started a new topic. Good luck to you and your son in Mississippi. It's nice to get an early start on the season.

I wouldn't go on another man's thread telling him he has issues when I don't know him from Adam. Guess we all got lines we won't cross.

I am hoping to be home in time for youth season....called in two for my daughter to within 10 yds....hope to get each kid out this year....then it will be running/gunning for me til its over....

Good luck gobblinfool! Youth season is just an early opener for us. My son hunts with me til the last sunset. I can't leave home without him. I DO have a lot of days off during the week when he's at school though.

Spurhunter, luckily my one daughter really likes to go out with me to turkey hunt and we have killed a few birds together, she likes to call, am thinking about getting a crossbow, because they don't like the kick of the gun....I just want my kids to go with me hunting...they don't like getting out of bed to early...

I guess a 20 gauge autoloader would be the lowest recoil. My son's first shotgun was a 20 gauge single shot. It kicked like a mule with 3" turkey loads. He killed one longbeard with it before moving up to a 12 gauge 870. Low recoil turkey guns for girls are a tough deal though.
