357 for deer? Update

Wife doesn't really want to shoot my 30-06, can't really get the 243 sighted in. I do have a single shot 357 , would be woods so probably 50 yards or less.

It'll work just fine. Especially if you use some of the hotter loads by companies like Buffalo Bore and Underwood.

243 sounds perfect, what issues is it giving you?

Should be just fine. I've killed a couple with my 6" revolver. Energy is way overrated. A bullet that will expand and penetrate will kill quick.

Yep. Try cast Keith style bullets if you have em.

My ruger 77/357 has taken quite a few deer all cleanly, but always limit shots to about 75 yards. Been using the Buffalo bore loads. They are awesome.

For years I used an old used Marlin with .357 158 gr JSP. For 75% of the shots I take today, I still could.

Well finally got a chance at a buck, stopped inside 20 yards but she couldn't get on him. He kinda spooked and trotted out to about 75 before I could get his attention again. 357 did the job. Only her 2nd deer ever . I was pretty pumped lol

Not a lot of blood but only went 20 yards and fell in a small creek of course lol

I shot a doe at point blank (less than 6feet) with my 357 pistol it was like someone body slammed her. She stood up staggered 10 feet and fell over. Pushed a rib out of her exit side.
