What do you think a marlin pre safety 35 Remington in 75 to 80 percent shape is worth?
Probably around $350-$450 depending on how motivated the seller is and how bad the potential buyer wants it. When I bought mine couple years ago my seller wasnt to motivated and I was fairly eager to buy it. I paid $425. It is pre safety and about 90% condition

As long as it doesn't look like it was sitting under a truck seat for the past 20 years I believe I would be there in the morning when they open the door with cash in hand. You will be hard pressed to find another at that price and certainly wont lose any money.

I'd say if you have always wanted one you will be hard pressed to find one this cheap again.

If you want it, I'd go for it.

I bought a JM stamped one that looked VERY used at an auction about a year ago for $225 otd. It also has a 4x Nikon scope. It was a great price, so I wasn't too concerned if it turned out not to be a shooter. The bluing is probably 50% with a couple of small dings. The wood has several character marks but otherwise sound and nice deep finish. The action is smooth and tight. It's obvious that this rifle has spent a lot of time in a deer stand. I took it to the range and was amazed. It's an MOA rifle with Hornady Revolution. It has become on of my favorite deer rifles in a very short amount of time.

A pre-safety 35 in 75-80% for $300... I'd jump on it personally.

I have more bolt and lever guns than I can use also, but the 336 35rem is great for those close-in brushy spots. That's where a handy compact lever gun really shines over a bolt gun IMO.

Don't forget to check on ammo price and availability. 35REM can be hard to find. It's no where near as easy to get as it used to be. The Leverevolution rounds are the easiest to get and work great. My pre-safety JM stamped 35 is a real shooter and will be in my estate sale.

I paid $305 for a real rough Marlin 336 in 35 Remington on Gunbroker.com 2 years ago and was well pleased. Mine is also a pre safety gun. They seem to more typically go around $400 or even more. It goes in cycles. If you've found one for $300 that you can hold in your hands and look at before buying, I'd jump on it without hesitation.

I paid $400 for a reasonably well used pre safety last year, was happy to get it for that.

I did luck up on a well used 336 30-30 pre safety about 7 years ago for $150, when he said $150 I paid him so fast that it probably looked like I threw the money at him.

If I had the money, I'd buy it if I didn't want it. If it will clean up and not look like it's been drug behind a truck, I don't think you would have much trouble making a quick $50 on it at least.

You're looking at it all wrong. The fact that you have all those bolt rifles is EXACTLY why you need to buy the 336. You need something different and varied - not the same old thing again and again! Now go get that rifle and do some shooting!

I agree with this. Having 3 bolt guns is the perfect reason to buy a lever. Depending on where I'm hunting and the conditions, I'll either carry a bow, a bolt rifle, a lever gun, a scoped handgun, a muzzleloader or a shotgun.

No such thing as too many guns!
