Having trouble getting tight groups. Just got the rifle a couple months back. Tried shooting 180gr remington core lokt.

I was recommended 200gr nosler partition or 200gr ballistic tip.
any suggestions ? Thanks

If you're just testing anyway, have you tried the 180gr federal powershok? They're inexpensive compared to some of the other brands, but I've dropped the last few deer I shot in their tracks with the same line in 150gr 7MM.

my mod 70 liks the 150 corelocks or the sst loaded by hornaday, been using the corelocks the last few years with no regrets,150-165g is way plenty for deer in 300wm imo

Check your bases and rings to make sure they are tight. Also, check your action screws to make sure they are tight as well.

Its quite possible that you will never find factory ammo that is going to get you much better than 1 inch groups. My 300 win mag shot the heavier bullets better when it came to factory ammo. The average rate of twist for most 300 win mags is 1:10. The best bullets for this rate of twist is 180 to 220 grain. This is based on averages for bullet length for a specific weight. Some bullet manufacturers like berger do not fall into these averages.

Your best bet is to find a freind with reloading equipment that will help you come up with an accurate load for your rifle.

I would try a bunch of different bullet weights from 150 gr to 180 gr. I like a 165 out of my 30 cals, but mine are 308s and a 30-06.
